Where you set your gain is a HUGE deal. If I recall, most "cheaper" high-power SS amps are rated at or nearly at 10% THD. (Ampeg, Kustom, etc)

SVT 4 Pro is $1400 new. I'd like to know on what planet that's considered a "cheaper" amp. Also, I'd like proof that Ampeg (or Kustom for that matter) measures their output levels based on 10% THD. That's ridiculously high for even all tube amps, let alone hybrids.

Bottom line is anyone who thinks Ampeg hybrids are underpowered just doesn't understand how to use them to get the most out of them. I could make my 3 Pro take your head off in an 810.

i had a 4pro before i got my cl and honestly i never head a problem with volume. and this is coming from someone who plays with 2 guitards using 100watt tube heads and a 412 cab and a drummer that practically plays with tree trunks. and we are generally the loudest band where ever we play. your not using the head right dude.

Actually both the hartke 2-15 & the hartke 2-10 are both 4 ohm cabs, they are made to run biamp with the hartke 7000 maximizing the available power at 4 ohms on both amplfiers in the 7000.

I think the gain setting is very important, as has been stated already. I felt like the one I used to have wasn't loud enough, but looking back, I never really cranked the gain much. I just got used to setting it right around 12 o'clock no matter what. I don't miss it, though-it was kind of heavy.

are you using a 4 ohm cab? I used to play one of those through an 8 ohm 4x10 and was never satisfied with the headroom.

Sorry for the extremely late response, but yes it was a 4 ohm cab. Two 15's, one forward and one rear firing. I used this on my Reggae gig. I think with 8 ohm's you only get like 280 watts instead of 450 at 4 ohm's

here's your problem. 15"s will bottom out and won't get any louder past a certain point. i imagine that point is where your hartke ends and your 4 pro takes off. also, why rear fire a cab?

With all of the Ampeg solid states except the SVT-400T, pretty much.

I actually have one of these...how do you biamp it? if Iremember correctly, there was only one output when you're in bi amp mode....all I could achieve was doing a high or low frequency, but not both....what am I missing?

That's the best way to run an Ampeg pre.

Unless you're talking about one of their all tube heads, IMO the best way to run an "Ampeg pre" is in a for sale ad on craigslist...

I just think their SS and hyrbrids are pretty lame - underpowered and overpriced - and nothing all that spectacular in the tone department, either...

I use my 4Pro both Mono-Bridged into a 212 and Stereo into a 210 and 212.

It is hugely loud; and sounds great too. If you can't hear yourself, something is wrong...

Please read the SVT 4 Pro manual. The way you hook it up for biamping is far different from hartke. You need 1 or 2 extra patch cables to run the 4 pro either Biamp/Full range lows or biamp split/highs & lows. Just pluging the speakers in the rear with dual speakons is dual Mono mode is 490 watts into each 4ohm cabinet. I have a 4 Pro with 1 peavey 410 tour cab @ 8ohms which I run full mono bridged (900 watts). I blow away 1 marshall half stack, 1 mesa half stack a super heavy drummer & our crazy screaming lead singer. they are constantly telling me to turn down... F-em! Remember this, dont be afraid to turn down the main lows & boost the low mids 220-400HZ is good. this will give you more headroom & tighter lows at high volume. I can't live without my 4 pro. I can use just about any cab made in just about any combination you can think of & in Dual Mono mode she just kills everything. Remember to rewire your speakon if you run dual mono or your only going to get 490 watts at 4 ohms rather than the 1200 RMS you should be getting. CROSSOVER FREQUENCY KNOB: This sets the crossover
point between the Biamp High and Biamp Low Outputs when
using the amplifier in the biamp mode. CROSSOVER BALANCE KNOB: This adjusts the relative level
between the low and high frequency biamp signals when
