When the company changed his job description to require a college degree, and he in his 50's and never graduated from high school, he said heck with them, and did like he wanted until he retired.

That explains my attraction to men who get their hands dirty, I guess. :)

Meh, I got nothing to fear then... My man card is safe because there is no way they are fixing my 2x2" scar on my hand...

Why 2x2 you ask... You see... Russia is great... 2" is a real scar, the other 2" is scars from them stitching it up... It was stitched with a rope. It took them 2 stitches to fix the whole thing up...

Not to derail this thread too much, but this discussion reminds me of reading an excerpt of John Amaechi's book on ESPN. For anyone who doesn't know, Amaechi is the (now openly) gay former NBA player who wrote about his life and his time playing in the league, primarily with the Magic and the Jazz. Apparently manicures are a fairly normal practice among NBA players. A quick Google search gave me this passage:

The NBA locker room was the most flamboyant place I'd ever been. Guys flaunted their perfect bodies. They bragged about sexual exploits. They primped in front of the mirror, applying cologne and hair gel by the bucketful. They tried on each other's $10,000 suits, admired each other's rings and necklaces. It was an intense camaraderie that felt completely natural to them. Surveying the room, I couldn't help chuckling to myself: And I'm the gay one.

Not to mention the big rappers like DMX and Jay-Z dressed up in furs and rings. I always thought Liberace would have approved.

1. God allmighty, whatever did that musta HURT.

B. I imagine the additional scarring is from infection? Cuz rope can't be all that sanitary.

4. I bet DUCK TAPE woulda been a better healing method!!! LOL

Do you know all that they do in a manicure/pedicure? I would DEFINITELY say that's taking care of your hands/feet.

And about the cigar remark. I barely ever inhale the smoke, so :spit:.

Yeah, but they still cause mouth and throat cancers, even if you don't inhale.



I don't want my hands 'prettied up', because A) Why would I, really? and B) I think the 'chance to be decorative' ship sailed while I was in elementary school.

But I do wonder if a manicure place could help with making my nails stronger for when I go down to the folk festival in the early summer each year.

I go from playing my 12-string for three or four hours a week, to playing it three of four hours a day the whole time I'm there. I'm a fingerpicker and my nails can't handle it.

Does anyone have any ideas how to really toughen up specific nails? For some reason, all the ones I have troubles with are the exact ones I want to grow out to fingerpick.

The other six that I don't care about grow just fine. The four I need split and get ingrowns. Go figure.

Calcium. Drink lots of milk, get that orange juice with calcium, and take vitamins with calcium in it.
