I can honestly say the only thing that worries me about owning a gibson t bird is busting the headstock , the only reason why i sell them when i buy them is I just need a P bass neck, the 1.5 inch nut kills my playing ability.
To young to understand, he gets a pass.
If you don't know what a Thunderbird is you might be in the wrong business.
Nah, man. Black guys don't play Thunderbirds, didn't you know?
They work very well for me, I have quite a few from various vintages, played thru an amp of reasonable quality (I use a GK 1001) I have no problem getting good tone - Plenty of respected players in various genres use them too, tho they are most commonly associated with Rock, Chris Squire, Horace Panter, and Walter Becker are amongst them many that have used Thunderbirds.
The various vintages all have vastly differing tone as pickups and construction has varied quite a bit over the years, personally I favor '76's but own several post' 88's as well, and they are certainly good players too.
Tbird, I know you get it, I have seen your band, and the Thunderbird is just perfect for you guys.I really could not imagine you using anything except this bass.
BTW, I use a 1001rb too and the MB-500 as a back up. As for the look, I had to go wireless with it.I think it enhances the look.
OK, just waiting for that one:
of, course, he's probably older than 19, so what would he know anyway? (Kinda sounds like this line would fit in the song!)

Soundclips?
There's always the ones in my sig but this is my band live with the mix balanced and recorded thru microphones not video camera stuff..........It's a '76 played with a pic.
The whole neck dive complaint is so over done. I mean, it's a bass. Play it, and hold on to it. I don't treat my T Bird any different than any other bass. I play it, you HAVE to hold the neck when you play, and between songs, I still hold the neck of the bass, regardless of the brand. It really is a non-issue, unless you wear your bass as a necklace!
The T Bird, like the Rick, is a cool, stylish, iconic bass that is just plain one thousand times more fun and interesting than any boring Fender bass out there!![]()

You only HAVE to hold the neck when you play if your bass is poorly designed and balances like crap. One of my basses that I played for several hours today balances very well and I don't have to support it with my left hand.
Ahh, that explains why nobody took Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Stones, Pink Floyd, Rush, Cheap Trick, or any other of those hack bands seriously.
It also explains why the Who was only taken half-seriously.

This is one of the funniest threads on tb in a while. Even the serious quotes crack me up.
I am by no means a Fender elitist but honestly, I find the look of Thunderbirds to be so lame. I don't think I've ever seen someone rock it and not think, that looks so lame. Classic rock and metal bands included. Then again, I think most of that music is pretty lame so whatever.
FLAME ON DUDES!!!
The only bird I dig is Charlie Parker.
I own a epi t-bird pro. While not in the same catergory it still looks/sounds similar. I get alot of compliments on it when I gig out with it. Plus I feel like a badass when I play it![]()
Played one, didn't like the way it played, its sound, or its weight. Saying we have different tastes, styles, and needs means I/we "don't get it" is arrogant and immature.

Yeah, I guess it is too bad for me...But, just for the record, I'm as old as you and STILL have never cared for Thunderbirds...guess that makes me doubly stupid, now doesn't it?![]()
When you have to hold the neck up you probably aren't doing anything more complicated that root note rock. Which coincidently thats all I ever found a T-Bird to be good for.
Up to that point I played a bunch of the newer ones in stores and didn't like them. I still think that many Gibson basses have too many design flaws for me ever to play a stock one. I also dislike Gibson as a company and their QC.
