Many Just Don't Get IT, Gibson Thunderbird

dunno, man, I listened to Tbird1958's youtube video and it seems like he's doing a little more than root notes... ...more than Cliff Williams does in the original recording, and sounding d@mn good doing it...

fwiw, I'm not much for root notes in most cases, either...

...gonna dispute this also. My Gibson is one of the most balanced & best sounding basses I own (and I own a bunch of Fenders, in addition to my Tbirds) I don't know much about Gibson as a company, other than they employ American workers, which makes them a cut above all the companies that have outsourced to Asia, IMO. Yes they have Epiphone, (just as Fender has Squier) but they do not put their name on instruments built elsewhere. Yes their management might be a bunch of jerks but what company isn't headed by jerks? Just sayin...

When a CEO's quoted business model is to "raise the prices on everything so people think they're getting what they pay for" I sort of don't want to buy from them.
He's basically saying that all consumers are idiots and it doesn't matter what sort of crap they put out. If they charge more than the consumer will think that they're getting a better product. His first move as CEO was to double prices across the board.
Gibson Guitars has also been voted one of the worse companies to work for in the USA as well.

Also, FWIW, TBird is a great rock bass player and (IIRC) he himself has admitted that he does play a lot of root note rock. He just does a lot better job of it than most.:)

er and (IIRC) he himself has admitted that he does play a lot of root note rock. He just does a lot better job of it than most.:)

John Entwistle certainly didn't play the root notes.

I wouldn't defend Gibson as a company. They've taken great companies, bought them and basically ruined them. Like the analogy of Pre-CBS applied to Fender the "Pre-Gibson" might apply to Tobias, Trace Elliot and others. But I think my Gibson T Bird and Epiphone T Birds sound and play amazing. Both are great basses. And its not like Fender didn't buy and ruin companies... remember SUNN?

2007 Epi player here. Strung it with flats and this thing is thunderous!
