I don't think I've ever seen someone rock it and not think, that looks so lame.
May I introduce the President of The "I don't get It Club"

Indeed. Buncha old ladies. Ooh neck dive...![]()
Listen to Tom Petersson on Cheap Trick's first album from 1977. Gee, with all that "neck dive" he sure plays some amazing stuff on a Gibson Thunderbird that is clearly beyond just root notes.
Thanks Rob, I am a huge Peterson fan. I remember standing in front of the stage at a Jeff Beck concert 2 years ago standing next to Rick and Tom.
Tom is incredible, saw him playing at a local rock club about 12 years ago with Cheap Trick. Watched him playing that 12 string bass... it was great!

I totally agree. Imagine what he could play without that neck dive though! That would be like...WOW.

Neck dive doesn't effect how you play when you are actually playing. It only dives when you let go of the neck to drink your beer!![]()
My grandma gave me two pearls of wisdom before she died. One, if granddad asks you to pull his finger, don't. and two, never get into an argument with an alcoholic.
God all the t bird hate is making me look for another one.
So how did you avoid arguing with your granddad if you didn't pull his finger?
dunno, man, I listened to Tbird1958's youtube video and it seems like he's doing a little more than root notes... ...more than Cliff Williams does in the original recording, and sounding d@mn good doing it...
fwiw, I'm not much for root notes in most cases, either...
...gonna dispute this also. My Gibson is one of the most balanced & best sounding basses I own (and I own a bunch of Fenders, in addition to my Tbirds) I don't know much about Gibson as a company, other than they employ American workers, which makes them a cut above all the companies that have outsourced to Asia, IMO. Yes they have Epiphone, (just as Fender has Squier) but they do not put their name on instruments built elsewhere. Yes their management might be a bunch of jerks but what company isn't headed by jerks? Just sayin...
er and (IIRC) he himself has admitted that he does play a lot of root note rock. He just does a lot better job of it than most.![]()
my names Tbird because I work in the lightning protection industry.
