Maple or rosewood on your Jazz?

I love the way maple looks so I choose it when I can so there it is. I think isn't noticable enough to break your mind on it.
I kinda like rosewood on my Fenders. Goes back to 1977.

I really enjoy these warmoth builds - I've never been 100% satisfied when they are done - but I've always cut corners / done stuff on the cheap in the past - this one is 100% deluxe everything I wanted, so we'll see. I just wish that Warmoth would make a wider 5 string neck with a nice shallow profile like this 4 I bought!
Well, my jazz partsbass is maple. And it has 18V Barts in it so I don't really know what it sounded like before that.
Precision is RW and has a SD QP pup with tapes, so hard to compare the effects of tone wood, but I'm a believer.

Here's an interesting comparison of the sound of a P bass played with two different necks, rosewood and maple - everything else is the same.
I'm never totally happy with any bass. As Uncle Will Lee says, "I hate every bass. There's always something wrong with each one.".
I want to go the maple/pearl blocks route with the vintage cream to recreate the look of my original 70's Jazz. That was my favorite looking bass ever. A little hesitant to spend the dough on one of those custom blocked necks yet so I'm going to dip my toe in the water with something from the Showcase first. I painted a nitro burgundy mist J body a few years back and haven't found a neck to make me happy yet. Tired of seeing it hanging in the basement after spending so much time doing the paint. A rosewood Warmoth neck is going to be the latest attempt at making the bass come to life.
Don't do it. You will not be happy, unless you can find a slim-taper in the showcase. There seems to be a serious difference between that and the stock profile.
My neck, with flame maple, graphite, slim profile and drilled for Hipshot ultralights (all which cost more) came to a total of $595. Yeah, not cheap at all - but I've sold about $15K worth of basses in the past year, so I figure I'd splurge.
So looking at the Warmoth "necks in stock" page, I found this:

Ok, I'm going to take your word for it on the slim taper. That neck is gorgeous but really think I want to stay away from the steel rods. Kinda going for an early 60's/early production Lakland Joe Osborn kinda thing on this one so the slim taper is probably the way to go anyway. I may just have to bite the bullet and custom order a slim/graphite/cream dot/rosewood board neck.
Right - steel rods BAD - I got graphite and the neck is noticeably lighter.
The good news is that it will be *nice*, and the up-charge for flame or birdseye isn't that bad (about $70)
Just for kicks I used their configurator to see what you'd pay - $460 for a satin finish - more if you want odd tuner holes drilled.

That's been my experience. I do like the feel of a glossy maple fingerboard though but can't really tell a difference in sound between them.
I have some satin nitro but will probably do a Tru-oil finish like the late 90's/early 2000 Musicmans. I've done a few now and prefer it in the humid Midwest summers.
Another comment on the chunky neck. The Warmoth standard profile looks slimmer than my Allparts necks but maybe not enough. Thanks for the info.
