March 29th - Earth Day 2008

Good Bassists Don't Forget Anything
Are any TB'ers going to do their part for this?

On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

What will you do when the lights are off? We have lots of ideas.

Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don’t forget to sign up and let us know you want to join Earth Hour.

One hour, America. Earth Hour. Turn out for Earth Hour!

I personnaly won't be able to, as I am going out for dinner with a bunch of friends tomorrow night. I don't see the restaurant turning their lights off from 8PM to 9PM.

I'm going to wake up and have a nice breakfast of spotted owl eggs and then I'm going to take a nice hot shower for about 45 minutes. Later in the afternoon, I'm going to cut the catalytic converter off of my car and then I plan to spend the evening hanging around environmental discussion forums posting pictures of oil company logos.

You can't cancel your plans to go sit in the dark for an hour to "do your part"?
But reminding everyone to do their part is his part. My part is preserving Earth Day for future generations by giving everyone a reason to see the need for an Earth Day. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go throw my year's supply of Snickers wrappers all over the local Wildlife Preserve.

Actually, Earth DAY is April 22. Link Removed

Tomorrow is Earth HOUR (despite the topic header).

And why that date? It's the birthday of John Muir, the writer who convinced Congress to protect Yosemite National Park. He also founded the Sierra Club in 1892, when most of what they did was go hiking.

If the 22nd falls on a weekday, Earth Day observances are usually moved to the closest weekend.

Hey, now let's talk about Daylight Savings Time! :D
