Marco Hietala

There was a thread about him about a year ago but I thought I'd post a new one!

This man is very very talented! From his incredible vocals to his intense bass playing and his very mighty tone hes definatly one of the greatest bassist. (And a very big influence on myself)

Any love for this man? I love his playing in both Tarot and Nightwish. I saw Nightwish live a few months ago... Best concert I've ever been too. Ive never been so sore after a concert in my life! He has such a presence to him that makes me think of him as a metal god.

Discuss! Favorite basslines, vocal performences?

some of my favorite basslines of his are Ashes to the Stars, Traitor, Poet and the Pendulum, Master Passion Greed, Sahara, End Of All Hope, Romanticide, Ghost Love Score and White Night Fantasy. I could go on for ages...

I wish he would play some straight up hard rock at some point, I hate all that keyboard and opera ****. The only reason I listen to Nightwish is because of him, and the only Tarot songs I listen to is where you can hear his bass.

I only have one Nightwish, i dont mind the music i just don't care much for Terje, havent heard the new lady yet but dunno if I'll bother. same deal tho, i just like the ones you can hear marco play. sounds like he does nightwish to feed the kids, i guess there isnt much money in tarot or northern kings(which he said was sort of tongue in cheek but ended up pretty good)

I think I've stuck myself with Tarot, some of the most awesome metal I've ever heard. I like all of it though. Zac is incredible on guitar, my bro really liked it even if it's not his flavor of music. just gimme marco on bass im happy

The new girl (Anette) is freaking awesome. Her voice is bare able and doesnt get old like Tarjas. I Suggest at least checking out Poet and the Pendulum (During the slow sections he get very melodic), Master Passion Greed (does vocals and some really neat stuff), Sahara (Little bass solo in there) and Cadence of Her Last Breath (Some awesome bass work if you listen closely). All very Marco oriented at times.

Tarot ****ing rules! Rider of the Last Day is probably my favorite. Eitehr that or Ashes to the Stars. Oh if you love Marcos bass playing check out Sinergy's To Hell and Back album. Marco does bass and some vocals its awesome.

Wow am I glad to finally see some love for this guy! I usually post about him in other places and no one knows who the hell Im talking about. His bass lines where the first things I learned, fun to play. Ive had the chance to meet him on a couple of occasions and he is one of the best all around funny bassists. His stage presence is amazing nad his voice really helped made the band what it is.

I will check those out!

I LOVE Ashes to the Stars and Crows Fly Black...those two songs are so stuck in my head all the time. I love Marco in both of those, I would kill to see him play Ashes though. I watch the video just to see him play.

I hope to meet him someday but they rarely come here. It'd be a kick if I were to get him to sign my first bass.

Yep, Daratter, some major love for Marco here. I had been thinking for a while about taking up bass, my friend introduced me to this guys incredible music and that was it, hearing him play made my decision to go for it. So Marco (and my brother) are my inspiration.

{fangirl mode}For the sake of going fangirl..I certainly think Marco is freaking HOT!!! His hair is gorgeous and his double goatee rulez LOL :p

I could go on & on about his voice...but I'll stop here.

No I wont stop, he sings like a god!!

As much as I loathe Nightwish with a fiery passion, I am sometimes compelled to listen to them purely for the man's playing.

I don't even like the picked, distorted bass sound as a rule (unless it's Lemmy), but he has a way of making it work.

He was in Sinergy as well, the weird lovechild of Girlschool and Motley Crue:

Singer wasn't very technical, but a very tight band if you ask me.
