The first time I heard Marcus was on David Sanborn's A Change of Heart album. Then I was lucky enough to get to see him live for that album's tour. Soon after I bought the Bob James / David Sanborn album Double Vision, and Marcus really shines on that one.

EDIT: When I first heard Marcus's version of "Teen Town", my jaw dropped.

The first album MM did with Sanborn, Voyeur, is great too. That is where the funk classic, “Run for Cover,” made its debut.

I had forgotten that Marcus played on Fagen's The Nightfly (along with Will Lee, Anthony Jackson, Abraham Laboriel Sr. and Chuck Rainey). Good one!

He played on the title track and did a great Anthony Jackson impression:

Double vision is one of my favorites too! Some other essential early Miller to me might include Lenny White’s “streamlines”,The Brecker Brother’s “straphangin’” and Donald Fagen’s “the nightfly”. “Never too much” by Luther Vandross is one of the most awesome bass lines,imho

Double Vision is a classic! Marcus, David Sanborn and Bob James are touring this summer as Double Vision Revisited. Maputo is my favorite.

It is a joy and an education to hear Marcus Miller explain why he plays the way he does.

I won’t go that far, but I love Marcus Miller’s tone. By the way, in a poll I posted of me playing Seinfeld on a bunch of basses, the one of me playing what is now your DJ5 got the most votes.

My brother (drummer) and guitarist from years ago, saw / heard it for the first time, they loved it!! Have a gig Sept 7, can't wait!!!!

Marcus Miller is totally workmanlike in his approach to bass. Anything he does is practical and effective.
