Mark Hoppus Bass

I recently bought one of these on the cheap to use as the base for a fretless build (yeah that's right 3234718, that's where your ESP neck was headed).

I don't understand why everyone jumps so quickly to "no tone control is too limiting". Add just one capacitor and a couple drops of solder and now it has a tone knob (instead of volume). Or add another pot to that and now it's standard P-bass wiring...that's under $5 in parts and 15 minutes of labor.

I'm a 5 string guy but I picked one up as a cheaper 4 string to mess around on at home. I was a blink guy growing up, not so much more now, but I can always appreciate Marks tone. Bass sounds great, was considering buying another or a few bodies to use as project basses but I'm gonna continue playing 5's and cant justify having a few nice 4 strings around.

The downfall of the bass stock is the bridge. Could always throw a BadAss on there and call it a day.

I considered doing something like that but I zero mechanical/electrical skills and I don't want to pay to get the work done. That, and no matter how many Fenders I try, they never feel right to me.

I am in the preliminary stage considering building some of them.Ive built a couple hundred guitars.Strats tele's,Jag hybrids,Strat tele's.So its kinda up my alley to try something new like the signature model with the PB pickup reversed.just gathering some info now.Anyone know what the p/n is to the string thru bridge ?

I've acquired an '03 Hoppus. Pure stock setup. SPB-3 pickup is really great. Being a jazz bass player prior, I missed the tone control. I rigged an in-line pot with standard p-bass connections, put it in a small plastic earplug container with a short cable & female plug on one end and male on the other. I plug it into the bass (it totals 6 inches long w/cables), and plug the standard cable into the female end. Instant tone control. Cost? $7.00. The option of using the tone is really handy, although I don't use it a lot.

I got a Hoppus bass a few months back. Ive always wanted one and blink-182 has been my favorite band since I was a kid. However, that doesnt mean I think its the best bass ever. Its just a really cool looking bass with a good P-bass sound. I do get alot of compliments at shows though ;)
