True, but ironically one of the worst sounding Level 42 CDs, IMO. Dry as a bone, which was really weird for that era.
You gotta love the last 30 seconds of "The Machine Stops" though.

I just did the same on my Kubicki, but I think it's gonna turn out to be a one-time experiment: The slightly shorter scale of the Kubicki makes light-gauge strings feel REALLY buttery. And the relatively low volume of these basses is dropped even lower by the lighter-mass strings.
Agreed - but "Dance on Heavy Weather" and "The Sun Goes Down" would be in my L42 favorites list! Actually, "Micro Kid" is cool too in a quirky way!
I get that "The Sun Goes Down" is one of their most popular and well-enduring tunes. It never spoke to me though. I do like Micro Kid, but I _really_started liking it when I heard the arrangement they had done right around the RITF tour - like [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. A much tougher sounding funk tune, IMO.

The experiment didn't work out for me, I found the lighter strings just not beefy enough tone wise for the gigs I do. They sure were fun to play though!
I've been a fan of that video for a long time. Just ridiculously fast stuff, and Phillip Scofield still hasn't recovered from that slap abss assault, even today!
As for "Standing In The Light", I love that album! "Sun Goes Down" is amazing, as is "Micro Kid", but "A Pharaoh's Dream" is the real hidden classic on that record! It's a very good record, my only problem with it is that the drums sounda tiny bit thin! Awesome song writing though! One of my favourites for playing along to, I think it reprensents a wonderful time when Level 42 were combining a fusion element to a great sense of "pop" melody.
After digging around on some of the related Youtube links, I came across this... I saw this in 1985, and this video is the reason I became a bass player...
