How are they? What do they sound like? I never see them mentioned a whole lot around here. I was thinking of getting a LMIII and a 4 ohm Markbass 104HR. I'd like to know your opinions on this cab and any other 410 under 60 pounds.

Markbass Cabs

Great thread. I owned a couple of Markbass combos and they rank among my favorite of all time, although I personally prefer non-piezo tweeter versions. I believe they can satisfy the needs of most players in most situations.
That said, a boutique bass shop owner, who sells Markbass and other brands, said that the majority of folks who A/B'd Markbass cabs against other high-end brands, Bergantino, Epifani, etc. wound up choosing non-Markbass cabs to go with their Markbass heads.

Are there any other 410 cabs of comparable weight, 4 ohm, and same or less price? I will be using this setup in many different contexts but the main use will be for an indoor drumline for my school band, which is basically a mini marching band.
The thing about bergantino qnd brands like that is that there is nowhere to try them out around here, and I have to buy from Guitar Center because of the no interest on their credit card. My parents are paying for what I can't for my Christmas present.
The Markbass 104HR is on the light end of the 4x10 weight spectrum, which sounds like a good thing for your needs. And given your Guitar Center restriction perhaps the best thing is to try out the Markbass cab, if you like it go for it. Nothing wrong with Markbass cabs and a lot of good folks are very happy with them.
Well, went to guitar center, after trying out all of their offerings (gk, ampeg,Mesa, markbass, etc) I picked up a LMIII and the Markbass 104HR. Best sounding one to my ears, very low-middy. We'll see how it works out in band practice next Tuesday.
I also had a full MB rig and loved it. Had the traveler 102P and matching 115 powered by an LMII. The rig sounded great but lacked volume when I played with my rock friends.
Also feeling very convicted these days about making sure my new gear monies go to American manufacturers who offer products made in America. Carvin, SWR, Ernie Ball / Music Man, etc. Okay let the flaming begin...

I'd like to hear if any1 has experience with both the Traveler 102P and the standard 102HF - what are the differences besides the size and weight of the two obviously... I know one is rear ported and the other is front, what is the tonal difference?
The piezo tweeters are a bit more brittle, not as good at all.
The HF cab is bigger, plus the front porting (ime) makes the suond a bit more predictable, and projects the bass better out into the room. I was getting a very boomy sound on stage back when I had my rear ported jeff berlin.
The 102HF is a much more capable cab to my ears. But the traveller is very good for the size of it, and works well with another bigger cab underneath it.

I thought the 102p was a terrible cabinet for the LMII, and it sounded bad with my Shuttle, too. Lacked low-end girth, that I couldn't dial in with EQ. Lost mine in a trade after about a month. Tried a 4x10 (rear-ported) with an SA 450 last week, and thought that sounded considerably better than the Traveler.
ahh ok so the traveler is more of a cab to be part of a mini stack and the standard is more of a standalone?
Well, the point of the traveler would in a sense be defeated if it were only designed to be a part of a mini-stack; there goes the travel-friendly nature of it, if the total package is 60lb+. Moreover, the 102p is available in 4 ohms, which would make it impossible to stack with other cabinets powered by a Markbass head.
I really think they're more just a case of being not particularly stellar small cabinets. But IMO and YMMV!

The traveler 102p matched with a 15p powered by a markbass F500 is the rig i have used for many years. This combination sound great. Powerful and portable rig.
