MarkBass Little Mark 250 + Ampeg SVT-210AV

Hello, I'm a novice bass player, i don't know much about equipment and sound.
I want a simple good sounding setup. I'm considering getting the little Mark 250 head what i don't get is that the smallest MarkBass cabinet is rated @400Watts RMS which is the traveler 102P

Would buying such a cabinet be a waste of power+money?

I'm also interested in the Ampeg SVT-210AV (which gives 200Watts @8ohms) with plans to parallel it with a 1x15" in the future. I play different styles and usually jam with other musicians so nothing fancy.

Any advice to cabinets i should consider other than the ampeg and would get out the power the little mark 250 produces?

Both are good choices. However, look in the classifieds on here. Some great deals to be had. Look at GB Shuttle & a cab to suit. Cheap & great quality.

But it isn't a rig you'd use for super high power. The 210av's are great sounding light-to-medium duty cabs that sound like mini-SVT cabs, but if you're looking for big sound pressure levels, forget it. They're certainly big enough for my needs, though.

But forget power handling ratings...most cabs on the market don't take anywhere near their power handling ratings in real life. Usually they just give you what wattage it takes to make the speakers' voice coils blow and never say anything about the way lower wattage it takes to get your cab to start farting out, which is significantly lower, often as little as half.

You are fine with a low wattage head and a cab that can take way more power than the head puts out. I do stuff like that all the time. You are also fine with a head that puts way more wattage than your cab can take as long as you are careful with the volume knob. So just get what you want and run it within its limits, use your common sense, and you'll be fine.

@Jimmy: I also hear that Mark Bass underrate the power of their amps! I don't need anything loud, i'm just looking for a nice flexible sound, whether it is jazz, funk or rock... i like your setup, very sexy ;-)

Why a 1x15?? A second 210AV would be a much better choice especially if you place them in a vertical stack.

Don't know about underrated, but Markbass amps do hit their quoted power ratings or better in bench tests I've seen. 30-40w here and there isn't going to be anything you'd ever notice. And besides, it sounds like in your usage that it'll never be a concern.
