MarkBass Mini CMD 121P vs Fender Rumble 200

Hey folks,

I'm looking to pick up a smaller, lightweight cab for smaller venues. I have a NY122 + Little Marcus 800 for any med/larger job I'd need, but would love to cart a smaller amp around if possible for places where I don't need that amount of ear shattering power. I'd prefer a combo amp, to be honest, the idea being that it'd be easier to cart around all in all, and if I want the cab/amp route, I can take my other gear.

I'm gonna go into my local Long & McQuade and try them both out, before making my mind up, but I just wanted to hear any opinions.

Or if you have any other suggestions, for that matter. Even though the bass section at Long & McQuade here leaves MUCH to be desired.

Music styles are motown/funk/soul/R&B/jazz. Some rock here and there too.

If you can live with the slightly taller profile and extra 4 kilos I would highly recommend the CMD121H. Same amp and 12inch speaker but with a better horn and above all deeper low end. It's only a couple of hundred bucks more but worth it. I traded my CMD121P for it. The larger enclosure of the CMD121H really makes a huge difference in filling out the bottom end especially in larger rooms with a drummer. Whilst still great, I found myself tweaking the smaller a lot to get it sounding right at higher volumes. I have used the Rumble in rehearsal studios and it doesn't come close to either of the Markbass.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but no-one here in Toronto's got it so I can try it. :( And, while it may sound slightly better (which is why I'd like to try it, to hear the actual difference in sound), size and weight are a HUGE factor in this decision because this is meant to be a rehearsal/practice/small gig amp. If I want anything with more volume/oomph, I would just bring my LMIII800+NY122. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though! :D

If money is an issue, the Rumble 200 will meet your needs... as it is ideal for the kind of use you described. OTOH, if your band is really loud, you need to go with the MB. As others have said, you will get more volume and tone out of the MB.

I'd buy an NY121P cab which would sound better with your LM800 than a CMD121P combo with the benefit being cheaper and has tweeter attenuator to tame the hissy piezo when needed. The NY121P cab has a larger internal volume which does translate into a bigger sound than the CMD121P.

I have the newer MarkBass 121HR cabinet and it sounds great! Has a 12" woofer and the new 1" compression driver instead of the piezo. A great compromise between the 121p and the 121H. Check it out!

@alanloomis1980 Heck yes I did. I tried what was available and then took a leap of faith because the 121H wasn't available. I bought it, fully intending to return it. And when I got it, I really dug the sound. So clean. So full. And then I paired it with my Noble and.... I fell in love.

It's MUCH heavier that I was looking for, but the sound outweighs that weight (hah!). So I'm now set for a VERY long time, needs wise.

Nice! What else did you try?

I got myself a combo too, but it’s in transit and I don’t wanna spoil my NAD surprise ;)
