Markbass Super Synth

I've asked Markbass if there is going to be a software update to correct the Super Synth's ability to turn off the dry signal completely, their answer is:

"The mix control of Super Synth was designed to add to the dry signal the Synth effect as more users like to have some dry bass mixed with a synth effect, allowing to have the notes always focused without hearing any delay/latence in the processed signal. The dry bass can be reduced by turning the Gain knob down, and setting the dynamics controls on the software to have the right triggering of the synth effect.


We are receiving a lot of positive feedback about our Super Synth pedal. For now there are not plan about sfw update. but we are collecting every suggestion (thanks for that) that can be eventually considered."

MF's description seems grossly misleading at best- There is no 'either or', the synth output has dry bass mixed in. Also, from the sounds Ive heard in the clips, and based on the manual, this pedal does 'analog' style synth tones exclusively. The "wavetable, FMstyle synth and delay effects" are reaching pretty far from what I can tell, though I'm not an expert and am genuinely curious about a couple things, and if anyone can provide examples or clarification it would be appreciated :)

*"Wavetable" - Im thinking the 'Wavetable synthesis' is limited to PWM.. which in this case is really 'analog' style-

*"FM-style" - And how would this be achieved- Detuning the osc's to different intervals, or non-intervals? Does that even count as 'FM-style synthesis?

*"Delay effects" - I'm guessing that refers to the Portamento setting, though that seems a bit misleading as well..

Well, mine finally showed up earlier today.

Have had about 40 minutes or so to mess around with it so far. First impressions, great build quality... feels solid and hefty. Sound-wise, in my limited noodling, very impressed so far. I've only messed around with the presets and haven't even touched editing, but just going through presets I'm liking much of what I'm hearing so far. The issue with the dry signal mix thing doesn't really bother me since I usually prefer a touch of dry mixed in anyway.

Tracking is excellent. Overall, for synth stuff, I'm liking it way better than the Chunk OS I had. Though maybe not quite as "warm" sounding as my EHX BMS, it seems far more usable overall... just the fact that you can program multiple presets without sliding things around constantly is a win there. The octaver stuff seems pretty good too, though I mostly played with the synth settings. The EHX will be sold.

Prob load up the editing software in the next day or 2 and start digging in there a bit.

No USB cable included with mine. The power cable is semi-clever.

Will report back at another time after more exploration.

The Super Synth arrived today. The device looks and feels very topclass, the knobs are secure from something or somebody falling on them, they are just a bit slippery but that's probably me :rolleyes:

I hooked up my Sadowsky Metro (4 str.) and played and switched through the presets, some I liked and some I didn't, but there's bound to be a preset for everybody, and the presets seem to be useful (no strange Star Trek sounds!)
The octaver presets are not for me, I'm using a MXR Octave Deluxe and have used EBS and Boss octavers, but these Markbass presets are not for me.

I installed the software (I'm using windows 7, no problems there, and there's also Mac software available from Markbass)
I hooked the Super Synth to the computer and started to turn everything that can be turned.
Now if there´s 1 preset or even no presets you like, don´t fear, the presets don´t even come close to all the sounds you can create using the software, the possibilities are (almost) limitless!
I was hesitant in buying this Super Synth because the dry bass signal can't be elliminated, but the way I created the sound the dry signal is 99% gone, and since the synth signal is so loud, I don't think anyone in the audience will hear the dry signal.

I set out to create a Moog Taurus sound, and I believe I did it, it's not 100%, but then I always needed a separate amp to be able to have my Taurus sound the way I wanted to and not the way the sound engineers wanted (no highs and way back in the band mix)
The three oscilators make the sound so fat, it's unbelievable.

I am very happy with this Markbass Super Synth :)

Also if somebody would like to see just how the software looks, no problem.

For those that don't like the sound of the bass mixed in with the synth, you may be able to improve things by rolling off the tone control or treble on your bass. This will make the clean bass less prominent and may also improve the tracking since there's fewer overtones in relation to the fundamental.
