Currently using a LMII... No complaints here, love the VLE... Pretty much run everything flat... Can't believe MB (and other brands) have changed the way I think about amps!

One question for Ken (and other users)...

What's the main difference between the F1 and LMII, I keep wondering if it's for me...
(I play Soul/Nu soul with an old G&L L1000 and P - strung with flats...). I know the F1 is supposed to be quicker, but is it 'higher end' considering it's quite more expensive?

Thanks.

Definitely not 'higher end', just a bit different... a bit more present in the mids, which gives it its perception of 'quicker'. It's a little brighter and more aggressive, and the slightly more present lower mids gives it a feeling of a bit more 'punch' than the LMII. The F500 is cool because you get the F1 tone and size with semi-parametric mids, the full featured DI and a mute switch.

You are primarily paying for the smaller size. The tone is a little different, and most have a favorite between the LMII and F1. P Bass with flats... stick to the slightly warmer, slightly fatter LMII and be happy IMO:bassist:

What's the main difference between the F1 and LMII,

Hi, the F1 is using a pure digital power amplifier section still with the dedicated and sophisticated switching power supply, the LMKII or LMKIII with 500w are using an analog kind of power section. For higher power, read "above 500w" they are using the digital power amp section, 600w, 750W, 800w and 1200W.

For rock and soul, I really prefer the analog power amp, digital is excellent of course but really different and colder, fast and very dynamic indeed, you really have to A/B compare before doing any conclusion !

My 0.02$ FWIW. Eric.

+1 The LMII is class A/B and the F1/F500 is class D.

Also, as I've posted way too many times, remember that the LM800/tube800 and SD800, even though they use a class D power amp, sound quite different from the F1/F500 also.

I have not tried the MoMark modules, so not sure about that 600 watt power amp module's tone.

Thanks, I will be A/B-ing the heads soon.

I'm looking for a backup head, and I like the MB products, so I thought to compliment my LM, rather than buying the same head. Although I'm supersatisfied.

On a side note: I've owned a few heads to compare: The SWR 350/550X line, Tech Soundsystems heads (now tecamp), Fulltube KOCH (similar to Eden's old tube head), Ampeg, Trace, Eden. I can seriously say I'm noit just a LMII covert beacause of the price. The tone and volume in relation to weight is just amazing. I take my head where I take my bass, even crappy rehearsal spaces.

LMII for me too. It replaced my longtime RBI/Crown Rack rig and I like the LMII just as much tonewise .It sounds different for sure but it sounds great for the older Montrose or even rockabilly type music my band plays .I gave it the outdoor big gig test this summer at the big shows we do each year and it did great, plenty of volume with my 310 and 115 cabs. I run my EQ flat like most others and changed the DI to pre eq and just love it.

LMII here for over 2 years now.
Mine is racked with my tuner, all the cords. Same amount of hook up time as carrying in a bag but much better protection and never slides off my cab if tilted. I did put rubber feet on my rack case though. If I had gone for the F1/F500 then I would have bagged it.

This little amp has a lot of juice but at times I wish I had a bit more. It's easy to use and very reliable. I like the new features and look of the LMIII better but not enough to upgrade. Plus all this talk about the improved limiter that maybe isn't exactly an improvement keeps me hanging on to my LMII. Great amp.

I'll have to get a pic, but I recently got an LMII since my back has been acting up. I now understand why everyone loves this little amp. Everything at noon and pumping a single or even two GK Neo 212 cabs and this thing screams. :D
Plus it's nice and light compared to my 4-Pro.

LMII has been my main amp for 2+ years without fail.

I'd really love a 800 to 1000w into 4 ohms amp that sounds like the LMII/III. I'm looking to eventually bump up my amp spec. but want to keep small and nearly as light as the LM, but so far I can't seem to find much of an option.

Maybe an option is the Little Mark 800? 500w at 8 or 800w at 4 ohms. The only thing is that the LM800 has a digital poweramp and the LMII has analogue. So that leads me to believe they dont sound the same...

The reviews so far on the LM800 and LMT800 have been so lackluster so far that I'm a bit gun shy about either model. But my real conundrum is that since I roll off almost all my mids and most of my highs, I may not have the same reaction as many have, since they talk about the pronounced mid/high range and less of a low mid bump.

I don't know. I'm not really all that interested in the GB offerings in that range either.

The LMII was the amp that made me believe that you could stuff ten pounds of taters in a five pound sack! Seriously, I love the tone, power and size of the thing. It's been absolutely reliable for the two or so years that I've had it. It became my go to head and shows little sign of giving up that position.

Hmmm... I haven't heard any bad reports on the LMIII 800, but lots on the LMTube 800.

What's the word on the 800 w version of the LMIII?

It's not. Its like the LMT800 and the SD800. It doesn't have the same amp architecture as the LMII or III, so minus the tube, I'm pretty sure that you can just read the reviews as the same.

Maybe a better pic. My camera is ancient.
