Then like I said, if you need things like a dedicated tweeter amp, a biamp crossover or any of the things the GK has that the MB doesn't AND don't need any of the benefits the MB brings to the table, you're already set. The LMII is easily as loud if not louder IME.
Looking at tone shaping capabilities on it's own has never made sense to me. It's nice to have the abilty to tweak the tone to get a tone you like but IMO it's far nicer to not HAVE to
With all the info available on the LMII it should be pretty obvious it doesn't have ALL of the features of the GK.
I do need dramatic EQ at times. I would be quite surprised if the LMII is louder than the 1001RB-II. Did you compare them side by side?
sorry. I thought you were referring to paying cash instead of using a credit card. You were talking about the warranty card.I took mine back in a week so hadn't recieved the warranty info. I don't even know what the warranty consists of.
I don't think you'd even need the reciept. They've got the record in their system and you've got a record if any of it was put on a card. Might cause you some grief but I doubt it would matter in the end.
Yes. Several times. I have a few friends who owned 1001's just prior to going with the LMII. The 1001's are nice heads and the LMII plays in that same space.
There's power on paper and there's usable volume. The LMII has usable volume that exceeds most similarly rated and many higher rated amps IME.
With a LMII you may very well need less dramatic EQ to get the desired results.
test the LM with ur Bass and ur Box. if u like the sound more, than the GK sound, go for it. Sound is all what matters.
i love the GK sound with all its brilliance and the phenomenal punch. I miss that at the MB amps. But sound ist a matter of taste. Buy what u like more

Trust me, I didn't buy a LMII for any other reason than it does exactly what I want it to do. I have not so fond memories of owning gear that I had to fight with night after night trying to get a good basic tone. That was over when I got an Amplified Music Products amp ~15 years ago. Since then I've mainly used that or later variants (Gibson GB440 and Thunderfunk TFB420)... I run them all flat because IMO IME they don't hinder the sound of a great bass. The LMII takes that to another level.
I get bassists coming up to me on a regular basis at gigs expressing disbelief at what's giving me the sound they're hearing.
I have always believed that if you are going to be buying a new head for a cabinet you are keeping, you should bring the cab (may not be easy with an 8x10...) with you or if possible, find the same cab in the store. Also, bring YOUR bass...comfort and familiarity help when adding something new.

Finally got to try the LMII in the store for a bit. It is a nice head for sure. Pretty loud and good eq ranges. Sounds similar GK 1001RB-II. Perhaps the GK is a little more aggressive sounding with flat eq. Not having them side by side I cant say with any certainty but I really dont think its louder. If it is its negligible for sure. My impression was that the GK has more usable volume.
Regarding EQ, its more of a double bass thing to need dramatic settings due to the pickup I use. However wiith electric bass, one thing I like about the GK is that the EQ can be for room adjustments and that sort of thing but its also powerful enough to be a part of my sound and change the tone of the bass. So its not as though I need to use dramatic EQ to get a good sound. Theres just lots of options. The LMII EQ is nice but just not as powerful.
So in conclusion
if I hadnt already spent my money on a GK I might buy the LMII instead due to weight if I were purchasing with only double bass in mind. I wanted this amp for electric as well though and the GK seems to have a little more happening with volume and tone options. At the same price I would likely still choose the GK.
I also had a chance to try out a LMII. It was unexpectedly on display at a GC in North Attleboro, Ma. (for anyone in that area interested). The store was basically empty and quiet due to it being middle of a work day. Great chance to try out gear. The amp has a very nice build quality and feel to it. Sound wise I found it to be very similar to my 88' GK 400rb but with the LMII a little tamer on the extreme highs.
I think the current line up of GK 700rb and 1001rb heads have a better chance of being adjusted/tweeked to sound like the LMII than the LMII could be tweeked to sound like a GK.
Both amps are just different flavors of great tone. However very similar (opinion). I liked the added smoothness of the LMII and I like the added aggression of the GK RB's.
A new head is in my very near future and this will be a very hard decision...which also includes considering the NeoPak 3.5.
