Markbass ? Why the dislike ?

I've always thought Mark Bass stuff sounded pretty good, and was pretty well designed, and not a bad value.

However, I hate the color yellow, and I hate big, in your face brand names. I generally don't worry about asthetics if I like the sound, but the markbass look combines the two things I like the least.

I know, I know, it's been said...

Yellow color branding aside, I liked the F1 and F500 best. Never had much use for the LM II as the low end sounded less distinct (probably only to my ears) If MB comes out with a 1000 watt head the size of a LM3 that is class D I could see that making waves.

They have, it's Richard Bona's signature head, the Little Mark Ninja. And it's bright green lol

Funny, cause a big part of the appeal for me was my name, emblazoned on the front in Yellow (Mark Fowler, for those of y'all who only know my screen name).

I picked up a stupid-cheap used cmd121p off CL, and it served me well as stage monitoring. It wasn't my tone shaping - that happened at the VT Deluxe or Eden WTDI. The eq was versatile for getting a stage sound.

The light weight and volume work well for me, but I don't think I'd use it without PA support.

On festival stages, I did start getting some noise back through the 1/4 input to the WTDI... we isolated it to the MB combo. But mine had seen a lot of road use and may have had a cap going bad.

I don't think I'd pay full price for it.

After playing just with Mesa D-800 , Demeter and Magellan 800 this last year, I pulled out my Mark Bass SA450...WOW! What a fantastic amp and sound...Big Clean Cutting and Oomph
No wonder I used it for ten years
Still love my LMII but the semi para mids of the SA450 really adds something

I agree with 'gsgbass', I too have a Markbass Mini CMD 121P and I can't say enough about it. Components are top notch, quality of tone is the best I've heard and the power is clear and consistent at any volume. The first time I heard one of these little beasts was at an outdoor concert on top of a windy mountain at a beer fest. I was at the back of the crowd and the bass was loud and clear...the guy had 'only' this combo amp, no P/A mic or any effects, just raw powerful sound! Of course I had to have one. This amp and my Zon basses are a sonic match that i couldn't imagine back in the day.

The first time I heard a Mini CMD 121P / NY121 outdoors, and not in a GC store, was at a 4th of July outdoor show. it sounded very good. The air was thick with humidity, and it still sounded good.

I have a Markbass micromark and that 9inches cube is amazing! The only thing I might have against Markbass are their prices. But one thing is certain...when having a Markbass product you are having a top quality product

It's somewhat similar to Mesa for being a high priced bass amp.

What I dislike about Markbass most is that I don't yet have their genuine stereo Multiamp S bass head with matching MIDI foot controller.

But just give me a Musicman Stingray with most any Markbass amp and my signature tone doesn't need to be dialed in. The CMD121H combo amp I've got has handled everything it's ever been thrown in a live environment with solid "cut through the mix" grace including a huge outdoor stage with three guitarists competing for volume.

And my good bass acquaintance Kevin Chown of Cosmosquad, Tarja and Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats shares both my bass and amp preferences in that regard.

Sweet.

Me too. Hate the color. Love how they sound. Played through a half stack and a few of the combos, and heard a few bassists play through their stuff at clubs. Sounded really good in all contexts. To me the tone is, in general, not thin at all, but fat, warm, clear and punchy.

If you're a fan of the orange sound, check out Invalid Link Removed. They basically make custom Orange type amps in style and sound, but to your color preference. A friend of mine got one that's essentially an AD200b. Sounds wicked good.

Since part of this thread is about the Mini CDM 121P (500W), could those of you who have one please check the power watts listed on your particular amp? You'll have to lay your amp on it's face to see underside of amp head, look on far right panel and find Power in middle of manufacturer's info. I bought mine assuming it was 500W, but the metal plate on the bottom of my amp says 600W. I've been curious about this for years...is it 500W or 600W?
