Markbass... wow.

Im debating between getting a little mark 250 or little mark II for my practice rig for college. I know all of you guys say 'get the II, more power/headroom' but it really has to be a practice amp; I dont need a lot of volume. 300 watts into 8 ohms may be too much for what i need. I want to have some play with the volume, not quiet to too loud really quickly.

Suggestions? Also, why spend extra money if I''ll only need the 250.

I'd just get the 250 and the traveler 210. These things are just rediculously loud and those NEO speakers take a low B damn good (as I know you wont be leaving the beauty of an SR5 home...:smug:). Once you're finished with college you could get a 15 or something and have a perfect mini/backup rig to go along with your current large set up.




I myself have been considering the TA501 along with the traveler 210 and 15. It's more fitting to my needs now then the Ashdown ABM/EVO 500 set up I was planning on upgrading to.

I think that with the LMII the way the gain structure is set up you won't have trouble setting up a low practice level. It's not like a tube amp where you can't get it sounding good outside a certain range. That said, if the 250 is all you think you need, you will save the money like you said.. so really it's your call.

I agree with the other sentiments that this gear is loud, so you probably won't need much for individual practice.

...has anyone who owns/used a Little Mark II (or any of the combos) felt at all limited by the back panel options? It has less there than a few other heads that are desinged to be recording tools as well as playing live- just curious if you've found it's as useful for recording as for live playing.

I am going to get the 250 I believe, since i realized that it is a fair amount cheaper than the II, so it makes sense to get it. I will get pairing it up most likely with an Epifani UL110. Unfortuantely, GC doesnt carry the 250 right now. Any chance that more people will be carrying markbass stuff in the future?

Dan, if you get a chance than you should go back and try the Markbass amp again. I tried the same setup in Boston. The knobs on the amp were all set at noon, which is not flat on that amp. The VLE and VPF need to be turned all the way to the left. I also hope that someone can get the folks at GC some info on how to use those amps before they start trying to represent the product.

I just bought the Markbass 102P 210 cabinet. It sounds amazing with my Little Mark II. Its 400watts little as hell and sounds amazing.

I heard from Markbass and there aren't any plans to make a 212. I think that's a real shame. I do hope to try the ported 410 sometime though. I just LOVED the sound of the little 112combo though. I'd like to get that sound but bigger.

I really hope to see Markbass improve their product in the future by using better horns/tweeters, that would be my only comment in that regard thus far. I wasn't impressed by the horns/tweeters at all. I am used to Bergantino cabs though. Jim uses much higher quality horns/tweeters and the best crossover in the industry.

I find the front ported 2x10 and the rear ported 102p a great combination. The larger 210 has a long throw and chest thumping bottom end while the 102p provides the audibility on stage.

I use the horn on the Std 210 by itself when using both cabs although I don't find the Piezo/horn on either cab a problem with my passive basses. Quite subtle in fact. Much more natural sounding than my old 410XLT.

I really like the TA503 though - lovely smooth creamy sound.

Just to clarify that if I may, Markbass WILL be sold online in the US, just not yet. Our priority is to get product in the stores first. With almost 200 Guitar Center stores, that won't happen overnight!

Ah- you may want to tell GC to get their employees better informed then- he said they'd never have them online :rolleyes: I guess it's my fault for thinking the GC online guys would have slightly more of a clue than the ones who work in the stores ;)

I'm glad that Markbass will be available throughout the US eventually but I'm not sure that GC was their best bet. Markbass may want to provide each GC with info for the employees so that they can learn about the products and give the proper information to potential customers.
