try the link now my amigo we changed server and no one told me !!
its my vba 400 cranked up in the studio . I hope you enjoy your Monster Marshall as much as i do . :hyper:

 DAMNATION, SON! You guys show no mercy!! My kid must've been fooling around on my computer since the other night, 'cuz the volumn was set kinda high, then along comes Genepool playing "Punching Judy..." through my mediocre-ass computer speakers. The wife yells at me to "turn that damn thing down!!!" Doncha love it! The teenager messes with the knobs, but the old man gets the grief! Oh well... gotta keep the woman happy, 'cuz, if she ain't happy... none of US are happy!

Seriously... thanks, Stu, for fixing your link. Even through my wimpy (actually they're not all that bad...) computer speakers, I could definitely hear YOU! So I'm looking at your Public Profile here in TB, and you say you use a Mesa 1 x 15" cabinet. Is that what you're blowing through on this cut? If not, is that your usual gig cabinet? Anyway... you guys keep on rockin'... Reason I'm asking: as I stated in my initial post, I currently have a 2 x 15" cabinet, and it's a high-dollar Bergantino. I'm thinking of pairing-up Berg's 6 x 10" cabinet with the 2 x 15", but if you're only using a single 15", and if you're happy with that, then... hmmmm :hmm: Me thinks I could hold on to a buck or two... ;)

Anyway... thanks a ton, Stu, and God bless the Queen, hip-hip and all that... Aloha... David

Hey thanx man for the kind words even if you got me mixed up with Stu .I am going through the wee boogie 1x15, its 400w @ 4ohm and packs a mean punch .I only wanted to down size my gigging rig from a 2x15 and a 2x 12 because of space in the gig van but hey i haven't look back since .the cab has a long throw so it can melt your face even if you are at the back of a venue.I would love to try it out at your million square metre rehearsal space that would be awesome we only have a wee poky room at a studio here in Glasgow. :bassist:

Sorry 'bout that... 'twas a little late in the evening, and I was on my third glass of Bowmore Single Malt... a fine little 12-year-old from Islay. But this is a "talk bass forum", so I'll leave the Scotch talk at that.

I do find it interesting you're doing fine with a single 15". I'll be keeping that in mind. Still waiting for my beast to arrive! The wife and I are off to Asia for three weeks to visit her side of the family. Hopefully my VBA will have arrived when we return. I'll be setting this thread off to the side, and let y'all know how I really feel once I've had a couple of hours with it in my 10K sq.ft. warehouse...

Aloha...

Hey,

Just got my VBA. Deffinatly nice sounding. I haven't yet had a chance to really brutalise it so i havent heard it "break up" as yet, i think i may go do that tonight if i get a chance.

But my first impressions say i will enjoy it greatly.

To anyone looking into it i will now also give a short review. That i'll continue later.

It's very sturdy, great handles on the side, i think its very comfrotable to carry, just not that fun to lift if its on the ground, lol.

I was playing it through my ampeg 410HLF (which will soon make way for a 412)
but to be honest i think the marshall and my old V8 sound very similar, they do share many aspects, but i know the pre amp differs quite a bit, not sure how much but after hearing the marshall must'nt be much. I dont think it needs pre tubes swapped over or anything like that, it sounds very sweet the way it is.

I'll tell you later when i let it out how it goes. But at the moment i am thinking that this is a good alternative for people that want the V8 but can't find it. It wont be the SAME but its the same ball park in my opinion.

Anyways, ill let ya know how it goes :bassist:

Hey

Me again.

Just wanted to say one thing first. Don't pass on this amp just because its a marshall and not an ampeg or something else more renowned for bass. The VBA is pretty awesome.

I let the thing loose the other night, i was absolulty amazed. Excellent tone, like i said, awesome. I prefer this to the new SVT. It has a nice warm clean tone if thats your thing, and it also has a very nice sounding overdrive. When it goes into overdrive, it just feels to right, its not too overbearing and distorted its just right. Great low end. very tight in my opinion. I moved back as far as i could go (30 ft) and i was amazed that such a huge sound was coming from such a small package. (head + 410).

If you needed to know i was in a fairly large room, very high roof. and it just FILLED the entire place. Absolutly awesome.

if you have a chance to play one, do it. If you are considering buying one, you wont be dissapointed.

Yup! I've been singing praises about this bad beast here on TB for many a post... :hyper:

I think a lot of folks are 'hesitant' due to the fact that VBA's are just not to be found down at your local Marshall dealer, and quite honestly, I have a problem with that. While they will gorge themselves on Marshall guitar amps for inventory, none that I've known thus far have been willing to stick their financial neck out on a limb and stock a VBA set-up.

I got mine from a music store owner/friend, who sells Marshall products. I'll bet I can walk in his store right now and count a dozen or so various Marshall guitar amps, but I know he still doesn't have a VBA anywhere to be seen. He ordered mine, and it took over four months... from the day I ordered it... to get here. He told me it had to be built back in Jolly Old England... shipped to a Marshall distribution center somewhere on the US mainland... then finally shipped all the way here to Paradise. Geeze-Leweeze!

Oh well... I loved my VBA. It sounded great... just as you've described. However, I sold it recently... What happened? A naval officer friend got called to duty over in the Persian Gulf last August. He's a bass player, and he had an Aguilar DB750, which he owned for about 10 months... I was with him when he bought it. He needed to sell it, offered it to me for $1800... I wrote him a check before he could change his mind. Another bass player buddy had been in love with my VBA ever since I got it over here. He made a comment to me that, if I ever wanted to sell it, I was to let him know first. So I surprised him one day, and asked if he really wanted it. I told him he would have to give me what I paid for it... no discounted price whatsoever... otherwise I would just keep it. He didn't hesitate... well, it took him about a month to come up with the $$, but he has it now. While I do miss that awesome beast... :crying: ...at least I know it's making someone else very happy...:)

Enjoy your amp, man! I do, indeed, know exactly what you're feeling! :D

I've got the VBA..(took about 3 months to get in) I've also 2 VBC 4x12 Cabs (tho' I've only used one with the Marshall. - the castor collapsed the first day, so we've ordered Mesa Boogie castors (broader plate) so hopefully rectify that problem) So far I've just used it with a RIC (awesome) and a 62 reissue PRE (a different awesome)..The guys I've played with and FOH says the soundstage is like 3D and by far the best tone they've heard (says a lot, I've used Trace Elliot, a 1968 Traynor YBA 1 Mark 2, Gallien Kruger, Fender, SWR, Ampeg, Ashdown (another favourite!)..Highly recommended! I also like to run the second 4x12 with my Hiwatt DR105..when I run both amps and cabs together...whewwww
