Mas Hino builds, old and new

I had an Atelier Z awhile back ... The bass literally weighed 15 pounds it was insane... sounded beautiful but even sitting for extended periods my leg would go numb.

What's the weight on yours? My koa 4 is fairly light guessing no more than 9 lbs

I very enthusiastically recommend him for any and everything regarding bass and guitar work. I don't play Pensa basses, but I have played them, and while he was building them, the quality was on par with the best of the best. I am so happy he is finally getting proper recognition here.

Hi,

I've been playing my 2 Mas built Pensa basses now for over 15 years - fretted and fretless. They are just the best. Mas was also one of 2 people I've ever had a bass setup by and not had to adjust anything when I got it back - the other person being Jimmy C. ( the John Shur connection .... ). Good news he's back in NYC.. for me anyway.

1996 pensa koa body, rosewood fingerboard. fender CS and pensa preamp...this bass sounds huge! i sold it to a friend mine...Im still thinking in that bass...

inside the cavity there is a signature from Mas hino. says "atomic crazy" Mas itself told me that was his graphitti tag name in the 70's and 80's where he and his friends go tag the whole train ( subway)

Hi. My bass is also from '96 and I have the same thing written on the inside cover of my cavity as well...

Most likely the pickups are original. Pensa has been using Lawrence, Lollar, and Fralins for years.

the preamp is original. I have a 2-band Pensa Preamp that was installed in my L2500 by Mas Hino at Rudy’s in 1997. I have reinstalled the original preamp into that bass, and I am holding onto the Pensa to install into a future Jazz build.
It is the same preamp as shown in the photo.
