Going thru another forum I was enlightened as to what "Real" speakers were. Anyone have any idea where something like this could be found used? I would guess a crown 1000w would power this ok?

You may have been mis-enlightened...
That driver, on it's own would not be great for bass as it's top end drops off at 1.5KHz.

In answer to your question, yes that amp will drive it

Standard pro audio fare, great performer in a medium sized and larger box, fairly low distortion, power compression is very manageable until it reaches between 600 and 800 watts RMS. I have a dozen of the newer Neo differetial drive versions in one of my PA's, really hard to beat as long as you have enough rig for the gig.

As a bass guitar speaker, the HF extension is probably not high enough but I have designed custom bass guitar systems using the 2241 (older version) along with another cabinet with excellent (though heavy and expensive) results.

Yep, standard pro audio.

Can be found used on JBL subs (surprise, surprise).

They shine on applications where the low cab count and small footprint (or low flying weight) are requirements.
If those requirements are of no concern, 2 cabs of any pro gear half the price each will outperform one of those.

It's the difference between real Pro Audio and "bass cab stuff".

Of course, if you have a grand to spend on a woofer....why the hell not?
