Master Class by Marcus Miller

What's wrong with his right hand position? Seems to me like a strange reason to not be a fan. Regardless, thanks for the post!

I like some of his music but his plucking hand position irk me a lot. I just think it isn't healthy. I see a lot of slapper and funk player with that kind of position and I think it may hinder more than it helps.

So, you're not a big fan because of the bend in his wrist? Well, you wouldn't be much of a fan of mine either! ;) Do yourself a favour and forget about his wrist. Marcus has put in more time on his instrument than you or I probably ever will and he's fine. I've played for 25 years and never had a problem. Have I thought about it? Yes, I've checked out what others have had to say and tried altering my position, but I've come to the conclusion that, ultimately, a player has to do what he or she is most physically comfortable with. Everyone is built differently and what works for one person might not work for another. I see some guys play with straight wrists - I can't do that. My basic construction (long limbs) means that to play with a straight wrist would involve either wearing my bass down around my knees or lifting my shoulder to the point of its being painful. So don't worry about Marcus' wrist - it's fine. :)

I concur.... My arms are also very long and for me to play with a straight wrist would require me to not be able to play slap bass because my bass would be so close to the floor, I wouldnt be able to slap... I personally like the bend in his wrist. Makes him look cooler to me...

Actually, I feel like I've read that Marcus was trying to work on his technique straighten his wrists a bit. I also think Stanley has said he didn't like that Marcus and Victor had the wrist bend like him, as he could have influenced that in them.

That said, odd reason not to like his music, or maybe I misunderstood? Seeing him next month, can't wait!

This was great!! Does anyone know what effect he's using that's an octave up+distortion at the very beginning and very end? I've been looking for a solid octave up effect. Looks like whatever it is, it also handles his octave down sound, as he bends down and switches it over at one point.

Well from what I've seen of him, he uses mostly EBS effects, cab and head.

Sorry, sometimes I have a hard time explaining myself and the fact that it is in english doesn't help me.

I'm ok with his music, just not with the technic, so I prefer to hear him than seeing him.
