I personally own the offset vintage white color.Why this bass doesn't say fender is beyond me.Makes no difference.This bass has great tone,awsome feel,and awesome looks.I'm currently looking to update the pickups with a set of Seymour Duncan hot rods.Anyone approve?

Hi.
I own exactly the same bass. And thinking of exactly the same pickup swap or DiMarzio Model P. However, I have no real evidence stock pickups are "not enough" so I haven't done the "upgrade" yet.

I had spb-3's in my freeman for a year. Now I have the stock back in (for about a year as well). Killer bass. I say do what you want. Want tremendous low mids? go spb2. What a beefy low end with top end sizzle? Go spb3. More vintage or smooth tone, well I would suggest either the spb-1 or the Bill Lawrence P pickups (they have good reviews here). I have been considering adding a J pickup or a P pickup to the bridge but will probably wait before that happens.

I like the stockers...sound as good as my 70's Classic or the 2 other Precisions I have that HAVE Duncans and have left that one as-is. It's up to your ears I guess.

Got mine a few months back and it gets the most play of all my stuff right now.

I love the stock pickup and never thought I would change it. Last week, however, I did change it for a great 70s Dimarzio I picked up here on a great deal. Is it better? I wouldn't say that, but it is different. The stock Freeman is a little more "precision" but that vintage Dimarzio with the adjustable poles has a smooth driving low end like no other p pickup I've had before. I like them both for different applications.

I will either put the freeman pickup back in or use it in a p/j project I want to do in the near future. Chances are I'll take the Freeman back to stock and use the Dimarzio for the build as I think it will pair better with a jazz pickup. That stock Freeman pickup just begs to boom by itself.

Regardless, incredible bass for the money. I got mine for $170, and I felt like I stole it.

I'm a big Operation Ivy and Rancid fan but not a big Squier fan.. but I just might have to buy this, after learning Maxwell Murder as a young teen I actually stopped using a pick haha fingerstyle ever since, you guys all seem to really like it though, I assume you guys would recommend it?

I love rancid and op ivy as well.huge fan!its no squire.i think they just put that name on it to make it affordable,because if it were "fender" itd probably be just as much as the duff mckagan bass.

the black on black looks great.i actually wanna get it in that color as a back up bass but I most likely wont do it.

I actually thought about the spb 3 as well.but lately these stock pickups been sounding really good with this new amp I got and I'm real happy with the sound.But i'm all about updating and customizing while keeping it as much stock looking as possible

thanx for the input guys.after reading your responces and thinking about it,lately I've been real happy with the sound of the stock pickups.i got a new amp and ir really brings out that precision sound.i'm just always looking to customize and searching for that perfect sound.as far as not liking squiers,well squier has done well for itself and why this bass doesn't say fender I will never know.The only conclusion I can think of is it says squier to make it affordable.If it had fender on the headstock itd prob be a $899.99 instrument

It's amazing he was able to play all that music on a bass with a neck pocket gap the size of a credit card and the strings not so symmetrical over the neck. ;) I kid I'm actually picking on TB there. :D Freeman is awesome!

I've been playing a CV 60s P which, I believe, is essentially the same bass, except with a rosewood fretboard.

Gotta say I love it. Every time I think about swapping out the pickup, I find video of my band online and the thing sounds really nice with the stock one. I did switch out the hi-mass bridge for a vintage style, though.

Totally love the look of the Oly white Freemen bass.

The Freeman has a neck profile closer to the MIA P... as compared to the shallow and slim neck on the CV P.

I've owned a couple of each and vastly prefer the beefier neck profile of the Freeman.

I need a Precision and saw this one at Amazon. Just what I was looking for (classic color, maple neck with 9.5 radius, sweet looking bridge, great price). Likely ordering a Vintage White one today.
