Am I the only one that can't stand Fender? I have played multiple Fender basses of different production levels and can't stand the way they sound.

I don't know what it is, but I just don't like Fender, I don't even like their guitars. I just feel like I'm the only one haha.

Someone mentioned tone... I think that's what I DON'T like XD. I love a bass that has a grumbly, terriflying, deeper than the depths of Hell kind of sound. Maybe it's a genre thing? I play Black Metal. I guess I can see value in a Fender for Classic Rock... Like, weak, cute, poppy classic rock :P.

Then you can't stand the sound of 80% of the music that's been recorded over the past half century, and you can't stand the shape that's imitated by the majority of bass manufacturers in the world, either?

You got bigger problems than your writing style ha ha.

I'm not a fan. Sound/tone is mmk, I just hate the feel of the necks. Goes for anything really of that style though. Love the MM tone, can't play the neck for more than 30m before going "Meh" or "Ugh". I don't fall into the "can't stand" category as much as "I really prefer spending my $$ on something else better suited for me."

Closest thing I'd get is a Spector Coda, but even then I'd probably rarely pick it up! ;)

But then again not everyone else likes solid, neck-thru more modern sounding axes like mine and that's cool too. Depends on what you grew up on and are used to, IME. I started out on non-Fenders and have no reason to stop that trend now. :bassist:

Plus the fact that my Charvel on just the "P" pickup sounds as good if not better than any Fender I've tried... :o Especially on tape.

well don't start a thread like this if you don't want peolpe to comment.... Black Metal huh? and I'm guessing you have great tone through a Ibanez SR or something with your mids scooped.... guys I smell a troll.... ;)

I use to not care for Fenders all that much - except for this MIJ Jazz I played that a foreign exchange student from, you guessed it, Japan had - my God that bass had TONE! :eek:

Anyways, I recently picked up a 51RI that I absolutely can't put down no matter how hard I try. The bass is, for lack of a better word, perfect. It looks sexy, it feels perfect in my hands, and even though it has a simple setup I can get almost every tone I could ever need out of that one tone control and my hands.

Ibanez SR or Deam Metalman, iron cross or flaming skull vinyl inlay stickers all over it, played through a Behringer 1-12 60 watt combo, mids totally scooped, distortion pedal... oooh, yeah!!!!

Boys will be boys.

I play a Schecter Damien, and also have a couple of ESP's: one LTD B-50 (starter bass), and one Custom Shop ESP. I also have a Palantino VE-550 electric upright that I got as a gift and occasionaly play bowed. I have played Ibanez, and with the exception of some signature series guitars, I find they are cheaply constructed.

I used to play with Ernie Ball strings, now play with DR Extra Life's and NEON's depending on the situation. Just in case someone wants to blame strings.

As for the "trolling" accusation: I assure you, I am indeed serious about my dislike for Fender. Someone also claimed that by not loving Fender, that I don't love most music. I find that statement pretty silly, but hey, whatever.

Sure, Fender set the trend... In the 50's... It's 2011, and time to move on.
