Aesthetically they're much better than most brands IMO, but I still prefer Ibanez in that department. Same goes for playability.

When it comes to tone though, nothing beats a P bass for me. Even a Jazz can't compare. I'm not just talking in a band context either. When I go to the music store, the best sounding basses are always the Precisions.

If someone could give me the tone of a P bass with the look and feel of an Ibanez, I'd be in bass heaven.

Maybe it's a genre thing? I play Black Metal. I guess I can see value in a Fender for Classic Rock... Like, weak, cute, poppy classic rock .

the thunderbird was released in 63 so by your standards its "time move on" from that too. And the thunderbird is certainly not a modern bass.

Nikki Sixx's Custom sells the Thunderbird for me honestly. Turn the volume all the way up, tear out the knob, pop in a toggle and call it a day. But sure, for the sake of arguement It's an older "classic" bass that can have a pretty little melody sound to it if you want. The Theunderbird is just plain good looking though, and that helps.

New, new to bass

Hey there, I'm new to these forums, and to the bass. I wanted to play bass for years, but just never had the extra money laying around to get set up. I recently got a ESP LTD B-50 at auction for $70, and loaded her with some Ernie Ball Power Slinky bass strings. From what I've read, the B-50 is a pretty good starter bass.
