MB2-500 vs. 700RB-II

I've browsed lots of threads on the MB2-500 but didn't see too many that compared it to the 700RB. I checked out both today and, to my ear, the 700RB sounded more defined (the MB2-500 sounded a little "muddy"). Did anyone else get this impression? On both, the EQ was set flat. I did notice some reference in the threads about some difference in the EQ on the MB2. Could this explain what I heard?

I agree. I really wanted to love the MB2-500, but it just
doesn't sound as good as the other GK's I've used. too bad.

I think they are both killer heads. The 700 just sounds a bit more defined, while staying a bit warmer.... if that makes any sense. The growl you can attain with the 700 is so much smoother as well. Maybe it's the trannies?....... but if staying super light is a big requirement for you, the MB2 rocks.

I'm a fan of the 700rbII through and through. Personally, I believe it's the best head out there for the club gigging bassist. While not the lightest head available, it's still less than 20 lbs. Heck, throw it in the gig bag they make for it, put it over your shoulder, and it's weight is hardly noticed. And once you've got the gain structure understood and under your fingers, it's quite versatile.
