Just got home from my weekly Saturday jazz gig playing standards with a piano trio, which this week was a test run for some new additions to my pickup/amplification rig. I was incredibly happy with the sound, and I dare say I think I have finally achieved MBOL, or at least as close to it as I have ever come: and let me tell you, I have been through a s@!* ton of gear- for pickups I've gone through underwood, realist, full circle, and several mics. As far as cabs, I've tried the AI contra, various fenders, SWR, Hartke, Bag End, and various PA speakers, along with combinations thereof. While I liked the sound of some of my past rigs, Nothing ever really achieved My Bass Only Louder: until tonight. So I decided to enter this new rig in the annals of TB, in the hopes that some lost soul might be delivered from their amplifier frustrations. it actually isn't even all that pricy. Here we go:
Now the story:
Up until tonight's gig, my current rig had been running The Band pickup into The MB200, into the ex112. I generally have been pretty happy with the sound once I rolled off some of the highs and hi mids to get rid of the "piezoyness", but again, while it was close to MBOL, it still was not quite there.
