Anyone can actually compare the ATM35 with the ATM350?
Has the 350 a hotter output?
I'm trying a 35 mounted in a similar way as shown in Rick's avatar and the output is quite weak.

Francois, don't worry about hijacking anything, we're just a bunch of pirates here anyway.
I used to have the ATM Pro35 and currently have the ATM 350. It's been a while but I don't recall that the other mic has noticeably lower output than my current one. I do have the mic pretty much right against the top. The 350 has higher output than The BAND, but I'm truly amazed at how similar they sound.
Do you run your mic thru your D-tar or straight into your amp?
A big 'Thanks' to Matt Holt - for starting this thread, and AaronAllen for his suggestion on positioning of The BAND. It got me to take it off the shelf and give it another try and boy, am I glad I did.
To be honest, I haven't yet tried it for my 'live' sound on the gig, BUT last night I used it direct to my Zoom H4N and the KORG piano direct to the other channel. In a rather noisy restaurant environment I got what to me is almost 'studio quality sound'.
But the proof, as 'they' say, is in the pudding, so here is a clip from last nights gig. My Bass to The BAND straight to the recorder. No pre-amp, no 'processing', no effects, 'nothin but Bass'.

Works better indeed, but there's the proximity effect adding more low-mid so I'll need to tweak this a bit.

Sounds great man! If you have an opportunity to try it with a pre-amp at some point (especially the sansamp para), I highly encourage you to-I bet it will sound even better-although that sounds pretty darn good, maybe "don't fix what ain't broke" could apply here

I have a Headway EDB-2 pre-amp that I really like, however I am usually running that for my 'live' sound on stage and don't wish to mix in my Lifeline for recording as it doesn't sound as 'natural' as The BAND. I'm going to try a little experiment in my 'home studio' (a fancy name for where I keep my basses) and I'll bet your right. I can probably improve the sound further between the HPF filter and the EQ I have on the pre.
It stands for My Bass Only Louder. In other words, most of us are trying to get an amplified sound that doesn't sound (much) different than the unamplified acoustic sound of the bass.
In the 'real world', I am finding that MBOL might not be exactly what I need on stage, but it certainly is what I want on a recording. On stage, I have found that my preference is to have a little more 'punch' than I get acoustically. I get that sound with my Gage Lifeline pickup, but that pickup is not the best, most natural sounding if going directly to the board or directly into a recorder.

I am actually just embarking on this quest myself. I have been using an old Schatten bass 10 directly into the board for the last year (first year of amplified gigging)
I got adjusters installed and the thing doesn't really fit now.
I am thinking I'll get the lifeline before the next show. I have a fishman platnum pro EQ preamp.
But I find it's impossible to know how you actually sound on the other side of the PA. I basically just plug in and hope the sound guy gets it right.
When we do our own sound the guitarist just takes a walk around the room and tweaks some levels then we start playing. All I ever hear is the back of the PA speakers.
Any input on how you get your ideal sound from a PA?

A common practice is to use your rig for your own stage monitoring and then run a mic FOH, or send a DI out if you don't have any other option.

I can honestly say I have no idea about common practices. Before playing with my current band I played in a community orchestra and never thought about amplification.
I think the band will be a good back up for louder gigs when a mic is not possible. The thing I liked about the band was that the higher notes were very clear even if they were a little thin sounding. Blended with the Ehrlund which is a more natural and not so in your face pick up, I think it could be a good combo for louder situations. I like that I can just keep it in my gig bag and dig it out in a crisis.Sounds great man! I'm really excited about the different placement of the band.
The Band is a great recording tool. Stretched over the bridge foot is a good idea, I'll try it. The only problem I have with the BAnd is that the velcro weakens over time. The best DB pu for playing live will eliminate, or at least minimize surface handling noise, and so far that seems to be nearly impossible. There was a prototype Barbera acoustic guitar saddle pickup that did that..but the elimination of handling noise also made for loss a lot of the instrument's nuance
Do you mean the Velcro itself 'wears out'? I'm sure that is possible and it could be replaced.
I have sent a message to John Littler at Headway (designer of The BAND and EDB-2 etc) to ask what type of glue would be safe and effective to use in attaching, or re-attaching the velcro. I have had to re-glue mine as it was starting to come loose. I carefully tried several different glues and frankly, don't remember which one worked. At this point I will wait to hear from John so I can use the best type of glue next time I need it, and I will certainly post the information I get from him here.
It's a shame the fastening system on the band. The velcro on mine came apart almost immediately. John suggested once you get it in position to use some electrical cable ties to lock it in place. Personally I think there must be a better fixing system that uses a ratchet thingy with enough padding underneath it to protect the bass.
