MBox2 Digi 003 question

I have a line on an 003 with music production toolkit in a pawnshop ($800). I currently have a year old MBox2 Pro (with original software) and would like to get this 003 for the added inputs (among other things....).

My question is that I don't know if the software is going get all uppity on me since I don't think this 003 has it's "own" ProTools LE. Should I worry?

Switching the hardware should be no problem, my laptop uses a MBox2 Pro and a MBox2 Mini at home, and a MBox2 Micro on the road. The hardware is the "dongle" and as long as you have a valid serial number, ProTools LE will work fine. You should even be able to put the MBox2 Pro on another computer and run your ProTools LE software, you just can not run both versions of the software, with the same serial number at the same time, that would be illegal. However, the various plug-ins from the Music Production Toolkit (MPT) will need their own registration code(s) or they will not work! If you have the registration codes to the MPT, you will be able to install and run them under your ProTools installation(s) as long as all the licenses have not been used up. Depending on the plug-ins, you may also need an iLok, then the MPT can move with you.

you can´t you both same time (as in 003+Mbox simultaneously) to increase the number of inputs. won´t work.

PTLE works with both 003 and mbox, so in that respect, your good to go... just make sure sure you get the authorizations and "transfer of ownership" done...

That was my next question. So with PTLE you are stuck with whatever are the inputs of ONE box to ONE computer, and if you want to record more inputs simultaneously, you either have to mix them before the digidesign box input or use multiple computers to give each input it's separate digital file. Is that basically correct?

Are other "consumer" grade programs that rigid? PTLE says it can handle lots more tracks than that, how do you access them without needing to overdub?

You only you One Digi device at a time. Many will add another outboard device like Presonus Octopre or RME FF800 and connect it to the Digi. That's the nice thing about the 003 you have a lot of I/O options.

Actually its one of the most versatile, 18 simultaneous channels of audio inputs and outputs, they're just all not analog.
