Measurement for tuners

Wow, semantics aside, I didn't think it was that difficult of a question. :D

To the best of my knowledge, the measurement (i.e. 11/16") is for the diameter of the headstock opening. That said, if your instrument doesn't fit the standard specs noted in most manufacturer's product lines (i.e. http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=93), it's probably worth a follow-up call or email to ensure that the length of the post (generally either 3/8" or 1/2") is a good match with the depth/thickness of your headstock. For that matter, probably worthwhile ensuring that the mounting holes on the back of the headstock match as well. Here's a spec sheet, again referencing Hipshot, if it's of any help:

Good luck...

Fender USA/MIM 1/2" tuner keys utilize a 11/16" diameter hole.

Hipshot Ultralights come in two main sizes - the Fender size above and a 3/8" tuner key that fits a 9/16" hole commonly used by keys based on the GB7's

MIJ Fender keys I've seen do not conform to either of the above sizes, and are instead sized to fit a hole that is closer to 5/8" diameter.

all the best,
