well, we have grandma here....
many an excellent (and well paying
) gig was performed on this bass back in college.and of course, the prize of my 4 string collection...
i used to gig on this once in a while a long time ago, but i really can't deal without the ole' 7 for very long
Dan Glenn is just as closed minded as the people on this board who keep on knocking +4 string basses. In the BP article he bashed pickers with no apologies. We have enough stuck up bass players on this board! Why can't we just all enjoy each other's music? We have enough NAZIs as it is! <p>
yeah, that's true, nazi's of any kind suck, but hey. one thing that i've learned is that the world is filled to over-flowing with them, and bass players are no exception.
Yeah... I used to think all Bass Players were cool guys! Every other player I've ever met has been cool. We had sort of a bond... a kinship between brothers be it 4,5,6,or 7 string, showman or groover, stoner or straight edge, I could relate. <p>
I guess we have the capacity to alienate one another and be just as intolerant as anyone. <p>

but i wasn't saying to look at that because i like the guy, i said that you should look at him because none the less he is not too bad of a bassist and the whole reason to look at it was to check out the lightwave system, not to check him out
Im not trying to stir up anything about the lightwave or imply that somebody doesnt know what they are talking about but what I have heard isnt too impressive.
Their marketing is nice! I was really excited when I first heard of them also. They make them sound like the next best thing since sliced bread. The following is basically what I was told by a well known luthier who has worked closely with lightwave and has had them modify one of his basses. He is also working on hybrid system with them. He actually got them on the ball concerning the 6 and 7 string versions.
Anyways, he thinks it is interesting technology. But it creates a VERY different sound from magnetics.
And certainly will never replace them. Basically he said it has LOTS of low end with very little clarity.
He said that the notes really swell and he likened it to an upright sound. I guess that might be nice for fretless or if you just want a different sound. Doesnt sound so great to me and he wasnt to ga ga over it either. Although he didnt say it was crap or anything. Its just VERY different.
Anyways, he sees their potential and he is VERY open to new technology. But, he if you want a modern punchy tone this is NOT for you. This is why he wants a hybrid system.
Basically just tone options if thats what your into.

But you could if you wanted just get a magnetic pickup put on it too with a 3 way switch. then you get it all, no? But even then, it also depends what type of sound you want, the lightwave is great for the type of sound it's meant to create, it has to equal in that section.

awesome.. the one im getting is a 406,.. very good bass imo.. its active.. .. but im not getting it till after i get the new amp.. but ill ahve 2 soundgears =oD

i was really bored with 4 string back in '92, and i almost quit. i saw the bass player magazine give away of a bill conklin 7 string and i thought "hot carrots! that's the bass for me!" so i called bill up and the rest, well, the rest is history

Well - in another thread, somebody asked about when Carrots was first mentioned on TB and I was sure it was before 2002 - so I did a quick search ordered by date - very easy!!
holy cow. look at all my hair. and how few basses i had, although to be fair, at that time i had 2 on order, and i had yet to make the fine acquaintance of jens ritter or brian barrett.
and yeah, i started the carrots thing, probably even earlier than this post - when folks would put up ridiculous polls, they'd get the carrot option, along with the ubiquitous megavote.
