In my main band, the guitar players play dropped D tuning. When I still played my EADG 4 string bass (1.5 years ago), I used to go along with the dropped D and tune DADG. Then I got my 6 string, and wanted to keep the dropped D tuning, so I tune ADADGC, kinda dropped-A dropped-D tuning. Then I restringed (restrung?) my old 4 string with a .125 .110 .085 .065 set that came off the 6 and tuned to BEAD. The dropped D version would be ADAD. But even in BEAD tuning it doesn't sound REMOTELY as good as the 6'er in ADADGC. The 4 is too light. So I don't use the 4 anymore. The end.
BTW in my other band, Ripley, I play my 6 string BEADGC.

that would be because we haven't gotten them up yet. we are in the process of getting them mixed down, so it's going to be a little while til they are up there.
i have an older sample, from when we were first working on one of our songs...

John, that song is sweet! It's got a definite groove, the guitars are cool, and the bass riff is catchy. I would love to hear more of you stuff. By the way, I was taking lessons from Eddie Pruitt the other day and he has pictures of your fretless bass with the huge SD Basslines pickup and the double neck from the NAMM shows, he also has a picture of you (mullet and all, hehe). Can't wait to hear more of your band.

Also, i think that the second that the lightwave technology is available for 7 strings you should go right to Bill and have him add you at least one for your family. I am in the process with dealing with bill to get a 5 String made for me and later on in the future, i'll get a 7 string made for me by Bill.

I earlier posted a thread in Pickups asking if anyone had comments or experience with it sose the rest of us paupers could get a testimonial preview. I'm thinking this may make magnetic pickups a thing of the past. maybe. Just thinkin', that's all.
No, they don't have a 6 string yet, though i know they are working on it because i also know they are working on the 7 string already meaning the 6 string is also in the works.
OT here, but, JT, that bassline is really cool. I can hear that Geddy influence, but you've taken it so much further!

Question about those lightwave pickups: of course it all looks extremely cool, but does anyone know what they sound like? I've never been happier than with the active humbuckers I have right now, so how much can be improved?

I think those are some beautiful basses, John. I've always liked the distinctive look of Conklin basses, and all the different wood really adds a unique look to them. Very nice basses

Oh, they sound amazing. Everyone i know of who has played one, including myself, will agree that the that comes out of those things are just incredible. The low end notes are extremely clear and the bass sounds 20 times better. Also, if you're more interested, Talkbass.com's interview at the moment on the main page with Dann Glenn, read it. He plays a 4 string Modulus Lightwave bass. He praises them too. Check it out.
