Hi everyone!

Just putting a post up to see if anyone had an cool memories working and playing alongside the 70s LA session guys (Jim Keltner, Wilton Felder, Chuck Rainey, Larry Carlton, Reniee Press, Ed Greene etc!)

Never played w/ Chuck Rainey but had the pleasure of meeting him at the 1990 NAMM show. Very friendly, gracious w/ his time, and even gave me his business card and hand wrote his home phone number & told me to give him a ring if I'm ever coming thru Texas. Class act.

I would LOVE a chance to play w/ Jim Keltner.

A lot of those guys used to (and maybe still do) hang out at the Baked Potato club in LA owned by the great pianist Don Randi. Some have moved out to Nashville and still continue playing sessions there (Ed Greene and Michael Omaritian).

I met Chuck Rainey at Vic Wooten's Bass & Nature Camp.

I was seriously star-struck!! Chuck told me I looked like his friend Bobby Vega. I think I mumbled "Thank you".

I was surprised at how star-struck I was!

Side tracking here - what's the camp like , I was thinking of going on it!

I used to go see Chuck every Tuesday night at Blue Cat Blue in Deep Ellum, Dallas back in the mid 90's. He had this little fusion band of local guys and they were fantastic. Now years latter I saw him again in Denton where he was giving a talk about his career and such. What a talent and legend.

Side tracking here - what's the camp like , I was thinking of going on it!

It was fun, I heard some fantastic playing, and enjoyed the lessons. But the jams at night were a bit stilted, as there were so many bassists, few of which could play other instruments.

The nature part was really interesting and worth experiencing. Like the kung fu and tendon training were very new experiences for me.

The food is great. Simply delicious.

If I had to go again, I might go to the song writers camp. I bet coming up with bass lines to all of the songs could be a lot of fun. And the jams at night might have a lot more variety of instrumentation.
