Memorizing lyrics -- Age related

I think it's just that you were more into the songs you learned when you were younger. I notice the same thing with movie plots. I can remember every detail of movies I liked when I was 14, but I mentioned to someone the other day that these days unless a movie makes a very strong impression on me, I forget much of the plot the moment I walk out of the theater or living room. Harry Potter films, for example. I remember enjoying them all, but apart from a few standout scenes I forget almost every plot, mainly because I don't care as much about it as much as I would if I were still 14.

My only suggestion is listen to the sounds over and over whenever and wherever possible. Then get "in character" with the vocalist you're working on emulating. Eventually it will get ingrained.

So me going around the house early with coffee, bathrobe and a hungry dog, singin' Sinatra loud and proud is not a sign???

If any of my bands become a big act, I'll use teleprompters shamelessly. Not because of my memory. I want a safety net, just in case.

Meditate. Take a break from social media. Use Mnemonics while you listen to the song over and over. Repetition is the mother of skill.

I can't look at a tablet, play bass and sing without screwing up.

If you guys play to any backing tracks, you can do a vocal one into your iem.

Like where where the guy says the lyrics right before you're suppose to sing them.
You just need a couple of key words, not the whole lyrics.

It's an idea.

I'm finding that I'm relying on "cheat sheets" and I really don't want to do that.

I can't remember the last time I saw a pop/rock singer of a certain age who didn't use some sort of teleprompter for lyrics. You're in good company.
