Mesa 200 Buster club

Great, it doesn't make more power - thank you for proving more wrong. Stupid of me to use my ears in a band setting and use different tubes with different characteristics which was the point. Whatever you do, don't change a speaker in an amp with different sensitivity, it may sound different (but certainly not louder). I assume you contacted Randy about the 150w transformer vs the advertised 200w?

Exactly why I usually do not share technical info on here. Non technical people like to argue about things they know nothing about.

Enjoy your amp, nobody told you not to. If it works for you and you like how it sounds then I'm not saying it's wrong. Just sharing some technical information for those who care. Obviously you don't care so.....

And exactly why I hate giving real world tips to people - typical 'tech' guy has to jump in with their know it all rhetoric and why it's wrong. Because you bench tested something once that becomes the definitive answer with no other possibilities of variance. I wasn't arguing, merely stating opinion that the amp has more potential since someone asked about it, which for some reason does not compute with you. Obviously, I do care, since I had the mod performed in the first place and liked the result. Give me the phone number to your shop, I'd love to discuss your credentials.

Take it to a PM. You can measure wieners there.

Just got my cab merger. Time to take the Buster to the next level!

Thank you both for your input, I sincerely appreciate it, and like the song says, just because one of you is right doesn't mean the other one is wrong.

I think I am just going to get the new tung sol 7581A tubes for 180.00 or the sovket 6l6wxt+ for 117.00

I have 5 (I had 6 but the base was broken in one and I put the tube in wrong and burned it in a split second) str 415 tubes and was wondering if I should get a 6th one for the same price as a set of the sovtek tubes, or just get a new set. They are not new tubes by any means, they look old but sound great, have no way to test them. Or do you guys think I should maybe get the tung sol tubes? I am not looking for more power just better head room.

Buy the way what does a cab merger offer as opposed to just using cables?

Those 415's are worth a bit and are great tubes! You could probably sell them and have enough $ to buy whatever you want.

I've had good luck with the Ruby 6l6str which is the same as the Mesa 440's.

If you have adjustable bias added you can install any set of 6 matches tubes you want.

I don't know much about the tungsol's but those sovteks will last a long time and sound decent.

A lot of people like JJ's but I've seen some issues with them. Seem to go micro phonic and noisy quicker than others.

The buster preamp is almost identical to channel 2 of a 400, 400+. I added the push/pull pots to my buster to add more tone variation which worked out well.

All my opinion so I would recommend checking out some other sites for tube reviews etc...
Have fun!

Yeah it's so I can run my two 4ohm cabs in series so I can have a total of 8ohms since the Buster doesn't handle 2.

Wow! That is a big commitment on the floor there. Its cool that you play in a band where you get to incorporate that many pedals into your sound. By the way, I can't really tell what the make/model of the cab is. Do you mind telling us what tubes are you rockin in the pre/power section of your buster?

The cabs are Carvin BRX 4.10 Neos. Don't know about the preamp tubes, haven't had a chance to look yet, but the power tubes are Mesa 6L6s.

Have any Buster owners use the Buster's DI for live use to the FOH?

Pretty sure I did at some point... I only gigged my Buster a handful of times and did quite a bit of my gigs with no PA support at the time so maybe not.

Looks like it is a "Post" DI, meaning that it comes after all the controls on the front of the amp except the master volume on the amp. Kind of strange there is no "Pre" option. Although, seems like a lot of tube amp guys especially want to get the sound of their amp to the FOH.

If you are looking for another DI option, I would recommend a Countryman Type 85 DI. You can put it before the amp (bass->DI->amp) for a very nice "pre" DI,,, or flip a switch and actually run it after the entire amp (speaker output->DI->speaker cab) for true "post" sound if you want to capture the sound of your power section as well. If you want the sound of your whole rig, including cab,, then a mic is your best bet.

My 2 cents..... IMHO, I'd like to join the Buster Club. Sextet of Mesa STR 6L6 BTW, factory installed in Petaluma @ Mesa. Sounds like 180 watts of Fender Fury and with the 810, no real need for P.A. support but it's modern and ready for F.O.H. if need be. Cool amp. The @#$% Mesa 410 pair is way overpriced though so it's on SWR instead. No arguments please.
Peace and Happiness to all.
