Mesa was on to something with the Buster 15 extension cab, and it's a shame they never developed it. It obviously sounds great with the Buster, but I've mostly been using it with my D800+, and it works very well with that as well. It's a more aggressive cab than the Subway 15, and offers some features that I hope Mesa will incorporate if they launch a new line of rock-voiced cabs.
It is lighter and smaller than the PH 15, and the wheels and handles make is very easy to move. When I've taken it out, the only lifting is in and out of the trunk of my car--the rest of the time it rolls along behind me. Thus, it's at least as easy to move as the Subway 15, which has to be carried the whole way.

Hi Everyone. I just bought a Buster 200 head, have read much of this site and feel that most people really like the amp. Lots of good info here and this site helped me with my decision to get the Buster. Mine just arrived today, and when I tried it out it has quite a lot of background hiss, no change whether volume is up or down, instrument plugged in or not. It is also not very loud, as in master volume full up, volume at about 3:00 and it was living room volume. I would think it would be thunderous at this high of a setting. Moved tones around, eq in or out, just doesn’t seem right. Using a Genz-Bens Uber 410. Just to see, I plugged a 50 watt Marshall head to this cab, dead silent, no hiss and it sounded great so I don’t think there is a problem with the cab. Anyone have an idea about this? Thanks

Tech time IMO; a good one will check the tubes, etc. and get it 100% for you.

Why 3 amps of the same type, are you collecting? Mind you I have 6 mesa amps (about 5 more than I need). Just curious.

It was pulled from a combo and the head shell was custom made. It’s gorgeous. I need 3 because I use two live and this was too good of a deal to pass up. I have the 210 wedge that went with it as well so I’ll probably build a new cab for it.

When I got my buster, I had the same issues. The guy who shipped it from New York to LA, put it in a single ply box of cardboard and no padding, I can only imagine the beating it took on its way over here. When I plugged it in, it was hissy and very little volume as well, sort of like what you are describing. I took it to some local guy who was supposed to be a Magician/Wizard with amps, turns out he sucked. I then took it to Mesa Hollywood and they fixed it right, it has not given me any problems since, I only use it at home but still, I've turned it up loud at home jams. It has what I think are the original tubes STR415 which still sound good twenty years on. Some of the bases have broken off the tubes so I marked them and have to be careful when removing the tubes (if you remove the outside pair of tubes it drops the power 60 watts, mesa said it was ok to do this, no issues to the transformers). Anyway, if you can take it to your local Mesa guy, they work for a flat rate (75 bucks, used to be 50) plus parts, at least they do here in LA. Good luck with your fix.

I don't know how I spent a year on TB without finding this club, but better late than never. I love love love the sounds I can get through my Buster, but I'm finally having to bite the bullet and take it to a tech (if I were just a bit closer, I would just bring it to Petaluma, but I think I finally found somebody locally). Worked fine when I bought it, but I'm already on my second set of preamp tubes and still getting crackling and squealing after warming up (hoping it's down to tubes or the jack, but could be a cracked resistor), and the power switch hasn't turned off since I did my first tube swap (no biggie, as I have it plugged into a power strip with a switch, but still).

This all has me thinking I should maybe get a second Buster combo, have one power all the speakers (male-to-male coupler FTW!), and the separate electronics could back each other up. Does that seem reasonable (if heavy, haha)? If so, sell me one!

Exciting day! Thanks to a tip from another TB'er I scored the rare 15" Buster extension cab for a sweet price online! Despite the cab being a bit antiquated in terms of performance, I had to complete this rig. I toured the bejeezus out of my 15" combo over the years and always wanted the matching piece.
