Ok. I did some tube swapping. Mesa Select Svetlana Winged C 6L6gc's in the power section, a Tung Sol Gold Pin 12ax7 in V1, and Tung Sol Gold Pin 5751's in V2 and V3. This would be my preferred sound so far with the tubes I have available. Tonally, it sounds great (incredible even) but the amp is still noisy. It is now time to take it to a decent amp guy. Probably shouldn't have splashed out on all those tubes but the way I see it, I have the perfect tubes for it when she's up and running.

Yup
I recently took my Wedge combo to a much-more-than
decent amp guy. I was fortunate enough to find a superb & experienced, no-BS tech here in Vegas, one who specializes in all-tube audio.
I didn't need to re-tube, he did a thorough cleaning, was all it needed. And now: No static, no hiss, dead-silent and sounds just like new, which always was and is superb.
He did recommend new pre-amp tubes, but they would have cost $40 each. Well worth it IMO, but that was a bad month financially. Maybe soon. I believe they were RCA's he recommended; he did not think much of the stock Mesa 12AX7A's which are the originals, in my rig of...many years now. Plus, that amp has been all over the USA w/me.
Doesn't get too much use now, too much of a PITA to load-in/out, and with my 2-oz Quilter leading the pack, well...
BUT- Every time I switch from "Standby" at home & play- That amp is a true & classic thing of beauty and TONE.
It punches big time and has a very unique and great character all its own. Thank you, Mesa-Boogie.
Oh, yeah, I forgot- Can I be a member??
