Mesa 750 Big Block Bass Head

Mesa had big trouble with the active/passive separate inputs (similar to the effects loop jacks, the input that was not used eventually started to crackle and cause cut out problems). They fixed this issue by replacing the second input with an active/passive (i.e., pad) switch.

Per the above, the BB750 and M6 sound VERY different... know what you are looking for before you purchase.

Not sure why a pad switch would be any different than separate active/passive inputs... same exact thing.

I'm really happy with my BB750.

If you're worried about it having sufficient volume, don't. Mine is paired with a 4ohm 610 Powerhouse cab, and it's beyond stupid loud. We're a heavy rock band and we're extremely loud, but I don't think I've ever had the volume on my rig over two. Not two o'clock, two. Trust me, nobody will be burying you in the mix with this head. It'll knock your drummer off of his throne. :D

The overdrive is nice, but as has been mentioned, it lacks it's own EQ, which can make dialing in a sound you like challenging. Volume controls also seem kinda touchy to me. To get the dirty sound I want, I actually have to run an Agie Agro rack mount in the effects loop to tweak the sound, and then engage both ODs simultaneously.

Tonally, I think it's quite a versatile head, and finding my own sound with it was quick and easy.

I got mine used and it's only been my primary now for maybe three or four months, but I can say that I haven't has a single issue with reliability yet.

I don't find it to be a particularly weighty amp. I mean, it's not a micro head, and it's built to last, so it's got some heft. But it's not like it's an SVT or anything. So I'm not sure why some people bitch about the weight.
