Mesa Amps with Ampeg Cabs

I saw a metal band in a local club a few years ago and the bassist was playing a big block 750 into an
810. Sounded pretty dang good to my ears.

I currently own an SWR Workingman's 8x10 Tower, but I'm looking to down size to two cabs due to vehicle transportation issues.
I run an ampeg svt classic through a mesa cab and it sounds awesome. I used to run a mesa400+ through a ampeg 410 heritage and liked that tone even more.
I currently play a Bass 400+ into a Ampeg SVT 410-HLF and I couldn't be happier. Recently I have been playing right into the power section and using a Verellen preamp. Either way, it sounds great.
This is kind of where I'm at with my double 410HE setup. It absolutely kills in tone, but I have way more power than I will ever need. However, after struggling FOREVER against loud bands with single cabinet setups, I don't think I'm going back anytime soon.
I own a Mesa M6 and use to own an Ampeg 410HLF and 410HLF Heritage. Tone: That combination did not play well with each other. Mostly because the HLF cab tends to over exaggerate the low and high frequencies. Running into an 8x10 or HE would be much better. Power: that all depends on the ohms on your cab. Your 8ohm cab will sound a little quieter because your amp will only be running around 400 watts. Running it at 4 or 2 ohms will give you the full 600 or 900 watts depending on your M9 revision.
Yeah, that's what I am looking at, the SVT410HE cabs. I just bought the 900w version of the M9, so I'm thinking that the combo with the two cabs would be PLENTY of power, now I'm hoping the tone will be just as plentiful.
I'd be more inclined to use an ampeg head with a mesa cab. An svt through a mesa ph 410 or 810 would be amazing. You'd get the awesome ampeg voicing from the amp paired with a cab that goes both lower and higher than a fridge.
I don't have that option right now, because I own an M9 Carbine, and I'm not looking to dish out an arm and two legs for the PH cabs at the moment. But yeah, that would be a killer combo!

I run a mesa bass 400+ into ampeg 410 heritage as well. It's a great combo. Power, tone, presence. The ampeg 410 is ported and tuned lower than the 810 - perfect for my 5 string. I get a lot of compliments from audience and soundmen on tone. We play mostly medium size clubs and outdoor festivals. It has been more than enough for all of that.
Among the other paths to be found, you might consider a 4 ohm 410 and an 8 ohm 210 together, each from the same line of the same builder with reasonably similar internal cabinet volume per driver (thus insuring identical or nearly identical drivers).
The M9 is very happy with the 2.67 ohm load, delivers tons of power and tone, and you can decide if you need a 210, 410, or 610 (410 + 210). I did this for years and loved the versatility.
You may find that Ampeg doesn't have that combination available, not sure, but I found it with Epifani UL1 cabs. Terrific!
Well, the (discontinued) SVT-210HE is basically a half (or a little less of) SVT-410HLF. Same drivers, similar tuning etc. They work very nicely together, IME.
Oddly, the 210 has the same HE suffix as the sealed 410, but is in fact vented.
In my experience, such a stack goes much deeper and higher than the SVT-810E, and is about as loud, too, if you have enough amp.
With Mesa having a reputation of such quality cabinets why do you feel this way? I have only had huge smiles on my face when I use any of their cabs for bass or guitar. The only reason I had to sell my Boogie 4X10 was it was just too heavy to lift on a regular basis to gigs.
Mesa 400 (non-+) into Ampeg 215E, later i tried a walkabout 300 into that cab as well, wonderful pair!
if I were you, I'd keep my eyes peeled for a used ph410. I bought mine for $500 and its the best cab I've used
I know better than most people what Mesa heads and Ampeg cabs sound like. I've had many Ampeg heads, and I've switched to Mesa due to overall quality (not to knock Ampeg, just my preference). What I can tell you is the Mesa heads can easily overpower the Ampeg cabs (HLFs). I know the Ampeg loyalist technical guys will comment that the power output is roughly the same between the SVT-4 Pro and the Titan V-12, but the Mesa is more powerful in my experience. If your looking for Huge sound, Mesa and Ampeg is a good place to start.
