I currently own the Mesa but am thinking I want a change of pace. Ive always wanted an SVT but have never actually owned one. Played through em a bunch, and love their tone, just never owned one. Im playing rock/stoner/Doom kind of stuff finger style with a 4003 and a P bass. I run fuzz pedals, but thats about it.

Anyways, what would you pick and why?

Both great amps. But if you've got something that works, don't let the GAS get ya.
Oh, who am I fooling? I just traded off my 6Pro, which was working for me for several good years, for and evwen bigger and heavier, Mesa Bass Buster 2x10 combo. Get what makes you happy.

I know man, such is my plight. I love the BB750, I really do, and after a yeat plus of owning it, I think I have it dialed in just the way I want. But that SVT is just sitting in the back of my mind, always

I think you are much better off with Mesa cabs. i owned an Ampeg 810 and was not loving the tone. it was loud but just didn't sound as good as I had expected.

I think your Big Block is a much better built amp then any Ampeg product and it a lot lighter then an SVT. I'm still arguably in the honymoon phase with my BB750 but I spent the day jamming yesterday in a loud power trio and it sounded so warm and organic and had lots of power. Sure a full tube amp would be neat but I think you would be moving sideways.

I have a Mesa Big Block 750. Originally with Mesa Powerhouse 650w 410 Cab. I added a 650w 115 cab, and have to tell you the tone, range clarity and depth were tremendous. Best amp and combination I've ever played with. Big block is a hybrid, so has preamp tubes with solid state dialed in with the active mid. Hard to beat the combination of tone/sounds from deep warm tube to overdrive crunch and everything in between.

SVT is the classic, But eventually we are talking bass mid treble knobs.
Big Block does the same thing.

Usually its pedal distortion, and a cab that sounds good is what defines good
grind

Its nice if the amp adds to it, but usually pedal is doing most the more sustain type distortion.

Its hilarious though, My friend Roy is the one that told Matt about Green.
And they basically blew all the label front money on that overpriced stuff.

Basically got stranded in Europe because they didn't realize that money was for travel expense.
Not a shopping spree
