I have a Carvin Pro Bass 150 combo amp and put the 600watt 15" woofer in it and that amp is really smooth not harsh at all great compressor very nice sounding and I have a Peavey MEGA BASS AMP HEAD 400watts and in a lot of reviews they say what I have noticed it is way louder than 400watts and for some reason it is very harsh no FX just 7band EQ, I have to add my rack FX's to make it sound good, I play that into my Peavey 1820 cab 18" Black Widow with 2 high powered 10" speakers on top full range and bi-amped been using this for years, and then the MESA BOOGIE HEAD plug my active Bass strait into that and you don't need any extra FX it is so warm, smooth, punchy, open and fat sounding, the voice knob is awesome for quick sound shaping, I like my bass to be pretty dam clean little gain bass half way, mid almost half way, treble little more on the clear side and when I crank it, the volume, my Bass sounds so big nothing at all skinny sounding, its like clear and clangy fat and warm at the same time, its the sound I have been looking for my whole life, and when I add my Rack FX to it, it's just that much better, and next I'm adding the SANSAMP TECH21 RPM BASS PREAMP the one GETTY LEE uses and I believe thats about all I will ever need with my Rack FX, finally after 31years of jammin I got the sound I want, Next is going to be a brand new ESP LTD F-415FM 5-string Bass, with the neck thru, solid mahogany body, 2 active EMG 40DC HUMBUCKERS, can't wait to get that Bass guitar.. And almost forgot, this is my first ALL TUBE AMP that is why I'm getting the sound I want like that DD VERNI OVERKILL BASS sound, then 2 seconds later it sounds like NickelBacks fat Bass, finally really happy with my set up, KEEP ROCKIN!!!!Why don't you tell us all specifically in what ways it's unbelievable, Dan? Since it's still so recently new on the market, and relatively few people have yet played it or heard it?

True, one thing in particular that I dig about my BOSS GT-6B BASS PROCESSOR is the (FIELDY'S) setting, Fieldy from KoRn worked with BOSS to get his sound on this processor, I tweaked the RACK 160D compressor on it to my liking and cleared it up a little in the preamp section, its like they did 2 recordings, one muffled smooth big Bass sound and one incredibly clear clanky crispy sound and put them together like a bi-amped stack sound. I mean like an 18" woofer on the bottom and a 4-10 with tweeter on top, listen to one of Fieldy's KoRn songs where the Bass really stands out more than anything else and he is clanging the Bass loud and clear, that's the sound on the BOSS PROCESSOR. And we're talking about dull and new strings, on this Fieldy setting I can have kind of OK strings on my Bass and it makes my strings sound crispy clear and clean clanky souding, it really is an awesome setting one of the best on the whole processor, amazing I love it...Yeah, I too Dan hate the sound of dead and dying strings.. I had a whole thread about how I replace them frequently to keep that new strong brightness and zing. With all the overhead on this amp, it's nice to be able to get the most out of the tone from new strings.
Yeah, DD VERNI is awesome on my favorite album of OVERKILL, and that's "W.F.O." the Bass is so loud and mean on that whole album. I Will never get board listening to that. DD VERNI'S sound reminds me of STEVE HARRIS OF IRON MAIDEN GONE EVIL AND DROP TUNED..Same here, I dig a nice crisp, clanky roundwound tone, DD is one of my all time favorite bassists, along with frank Bello.....we have similar tastes I think!!
I am putting a rig together, but the mesa strategy will take me awhile to save up for, I was also looking at the verellen meatsmoke(also pricey),..... Decisions, Decisions....
