Mesa/Boogie Titan V12 megathread!

Hi,

First of all I'd say sorry for my crappy English I'm not a native speaker

I bought a Titan few days ago and I've to say I'm glad with its sound.
I've use it with an ampeg 810 but yesterday I swapped my ampeg for a ph410, I feel myself as a kid on Xmas day.

This amp uses a lot of electical power and gets warm and needs ventilation room ...I have not put mine back in a rack case except to transport to tricky gigs, but I'm considering trying out a 6 space head case and see if that will provide enough ventilation space....Peace...DAcat :cool:

My Titan got a good work out last Saturday night. It ended up being used about 3 hours straight after my 30 minute set and it didn't have any trouble at all. I have it in a SKB 6 space rack case. What I did was I put a 4 inch fan from Dollar General and zip tied it to the vents on top of the amp and I pointed it towards the side where the internal fan blows out across the heat sink,which in turn blew the hot air out the back of the case-the amp stayed very cool all night. I checked it after the end of every set and I could lay my hand on it and not feel much heat at all. It def. made me feel more at ease knowing it wasn't running extremely hot.:)

Has yours had the factory update? It will run much cooler with that.

guys, i am going to need some of your good will.

i have bought a silverfaced titan about 2 years ago, only one fan, solid lid (no holes). it is an sv-160.

about 6 months ago the amp had a problem. it was distorting all over the place even at lower volumes and had a very weak output. the power section was replaced due to bad FETs if i remember correctly.

now i have more trouble.

in a recent gig the amp started to shut down by itself and when i touched the front panel, it was very hot. i assume the amp was shutting down due to overheating. what else? it has never done this but i have never pushed it that loud (it was probably about 25% of the total power it delivers though). not that high. we were playing in a small bar so you get the picture.

the amp is in a skb case, 2 units free on top with 4 fans blowing inside the rack, using those 2 spaces (but since the top lid is all closed, the fans do not do that much to help cool it down).

took it to my mesa dealer about 2 weeks ago. today i went there to know how things are going and the store manager said that the tech guy is still analyzing my titan and that he found out a problem with the power section and that this was probably the cause of the failure. again the power section? how can this be? is this head so vulnerable? he still does not know if they will install the upgrades or not. apparently, it is up to the tech guy to decide this.

i asked them to upgrade to a second fan but it is here that i will need your good will. what are the upgrades exactly? a second fan and a lid full of holes? what about the power section? is it an improved version? i really need to know as i want to keep my head.

i can do the lid myself but i need to know if the upgrades inside the titan are only another fan or if there are other parts to consider.

i really like this head but playing with my mind on whether or not the head is overheating is just not doable. even more when we are talking about mesa gear.

about the lid. can anyone take some pictures? that way i know where to drill the holes. are there holes all over the place? on the sides as well? on top of the tubes? or should the lid not get holes in the section right on top of the tubes so these can keep their temperature and work better?? a couple of pictures will be worth more than all the words.

I would contact Mesa,they will probably have you send the amp in for the factory upgrades...second fan,vented lid and mine had the power section replaced as well. Total amount according to the paper work was $1600 parts and labor. They will cover the costs(except shipping to them,you may have to cover that,I bought mine already upgraded). The best thing about sending it to them is they'll do all the upgrades plus check your amp over and do a 24 hour burn. I used to have mine in an SKB and a Gator case and I used a fan in the case to force the hot air out,but I just replaced the SKB with a Carvin 4 space. I played Saturday night without any extra cooling inside the rack and because the Carvin isn't as deep and it has more room between the rack walls and the amp itself,it was pretty cool inside.

I bought my silver faced Titan used here. Ended up having to send it back 3 times. First time they did all the upgrades, but it still would cut out and it went back two more times...third time back overall I asked if I could get it replaced with a new amp cuz something was really wrong and they didn't seem to be able to find it. The titan was discontinued so they said I could pick any amp from their current lineup and I chose the m9. I loved the Titan but not being able to trust ur amp is a horrible feeling. M9 has been great and have had zero problems since receiving it. They were very good in customer support had no troubles talking to them and figuring out the best solution for me as a customer, and a third hand customer at that. If I was rich and could find one of the titans that was solid I probably would.
