Mesa/Boogie Titan V12 megathread!

I'm considering purchasing a V-12 Titan. I play mainly rock and metal but I do occasionally have the need to do the slap, pop, funk groove thing. Have any of you members used the head for slap/pop style? I've scoured the Internet, YouTube, etc., and I can't find any sound clips, videos, etc., where people are using the head for funk/groove style. Thanks in advance for any info!

Hey Ryan...start this vid at about 0.45 and turn it up loud... Invalid Link Removed ...This isn't a bad approximation of the tone you'd be getting -I've seen Rhonda Smith play with Jeff Beck twice and although the tone was much deeper live, you get an idea of the Mesa Slap-Funk tone,Bear in mind...that is not a Titan...it is an mpulse 600, a Mesa Carbine 9, and a Big Block 750, which has a sound very similar to the Titan I'm told...and its hard to say how exactly she uses them...however, this is very much like what my Titan can sound like. Question for anyone....
How much eq are you dialing on the Titans? To me it seems it has so much 'natural' low end to it, I have to run both the bass and mid knobs cut. I dont set it flat at the middle detents because it's so boomy it sounds like it would blow my speakers.
The only knob boosted on mine is the treble.

For clean I run it flat other than active mids boosted at 200 for oomph or 800-1k for more articulation in bad rooms. For dirty I cut the passive mids and boost 200. Bass control always strait up. Depends on your cab too. My gs412 has a lot of bottom. And my bass is really bright, so no top boost needed.

The all controls flat sound is definitely a little scooped. The passive mid is flattest when about 2 o clock.

I have been using my Walkabout Scout stack for a few months, instead of my Titan and 2 PH 4x12's. The WaS is just so much easier to take to rehearsals and gigs, and I have really bad back and neck problems...even thought seriously about selling all the big stuff!

I've had horrible GAS for the new Prodigy head, with a 2x15 cab, too.

Last night, I hooked up the big rig at my office, and experimented with different settings for a couple of hours. I found a bunch of new tones that I can't wait to try out with my band this week.

Über-versatile amp, with crazy amounts of headroom...I struck the new amp off of my "List Of Stuff I Must Have Soon"

I am extremely thankful that I have a couple of guys that dig being my "techs".

There were issues with the early versions, both silver faced and black faced. Check to see if that one has been back to the factory for the updates. They will do those under warranty, if it's not out of warranty, of course. I had both of mine done when I was using 2.
It is worth it to send it in. The updates would have cost me about $600 each. I don't recall the actual number, though.

I don't regret owning mine, at all, even with all that.

Some folks have never had a Titan fry and shut down. My first one did.

Mesa's customer service is second to none.

Thanks Mournblade and KwinS, i'm convinced, will check with my local guy about any issues. I want it bad, was already sold when i checked it out. He has had a it while now, maybe i can get a real deal. By the way, i use a Tech 21 RPM in through the effects loop. I don't leave home without it. Turns any amp into a Fire Breathing Dragon. Keep you posted my fellow TB'ers

One more qusetion, I have a New 58' AVI resissue and a 91' Stingray, which ways a ton, but sounds great. And of course, without saying, the Fender is awesome, thinking of offing the Ray towards a trade for the Titan, More thoughts?
