I had the same experience with the catalogs. I remember looking at the Goliath III cabs in bed and the SM-900 daydreaming that they were sitting in my room. I later bought a 750x, Goliath III and a Son of Bertha cab after many summers of being a dishwasher. I wish I had still had that rig. RIP to SWR and thanks for creating a great cab smut brochure :)

I still have my silver faced Titan “Mother of all amps”! I usually play it thru two 410 cabs( a Mesa PH410 and either an GB Uber 410 or Berg HS410). Bear in mind I have had no over heating problems since I first bought it when it in its tight rack case, after which I switched to a larger case with space above and below for the amp to breathe!! The best sounding amp I have ever owned since 1966, followed by a close second by my Mesa Boogie 400+!

There is a guy selling his Titan not far away from where I live. I have to say I'm tempted. But it looks like spare parts are getting hard to find these days. I've heard it from different sources. Especially from the guy who serviced one of the two Titan I owned.
Is it "safe" to consider that fantastic amp nowadays?

Hey All. I just grabbed one of these from GC. I figured it would be safe because I can return it. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get them out of the rack case. Also, there’s no serial number, so I was wondering if anyone knows an easy way to see if this one has been updated. It sounds amazing BTW. Thanks for any info!

Congrats.

Serial number should be on the back or bottom. Call Mesa with the serial to see if it's been updated. AFAIK the update is only done in a factory setting. If the update has not been done, it will probably cost around $600, including shipping. Discuss with Mesa as they may have run out of the necessary parts.

To remove the amp from the rack case, remove the rear panel. The amp is essentially clamped in place. There are long screws that are inserted into the bottom of the case into a board that sits on top of the amp. Remove these screws to release the board. The front panel may sit in sort of a channel. I believe I braced the top of the amp with my hand and rotated the case so the amp will come loose from the channel. Then I eased the amp out.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm hoping the S/N is on the bottom. The rack is vented, so I'm crossing my fingers that it has already received the updates. Cheers!

The rack is not part of the update. The update varies somewhat from amp to amp. Also the update may vary somewhat depending upon when it was done.

With mine they replaced the power transformer and I believe they pretty much removed and replaced the entire output section. I don't believe they changed the lid or added a fan.

My documentation shows they installed an M2000 transformer (P/N) 561700. I don't know if the transformer has a sticker. If your amp has this transformer, it may be up to date...or it may still need some work. Best to call Mesa with the S/N IMHO.

Back when I had one, Mesa added the 2nd fan, transformer, and installed a vented lit. The amp was a blackface but originally had a solid lid and single fan. I remember seeing a new label in the plastic wrap around the transformer being from a different model of amp, but I don't remember what it was from.
But I'd heard (probably on this thread) that Mesa ran out of vented lids long ago.

Still rocking a black Titan V12. Bought it new in 2009, and it just slams.
I go back and forth between it and my Aguilar DB751 - cabs are a Mesa Traditional 4x10 and a Powerhouse 4x10.

I have a couple of questions for you all - has anyone ever experienced the amp putting out any quiet static/hissing sounds through the speakers, even with the amp in Standby?

Also, I’m looking at potentially selling my PH410 and replacing it with a Traditional 410. I know the Trads were designed more for the Strategy / Prodigy tube amps, but would the Titan generate too much low end extension for a Trad cabinet? I’ve read about the importance of getting either matching cabinets, or cabinets that were designed to work together. I have no idea whether the Trad and PH series were designed to work together.

It’s a complicated amp with a lot of parts, I can’t make any reasonable guesses.

Do you have the possibility to swap all the tubes and test the amp with new tubes?
