I wouldn't shun one.

I've used amps that had mute functions several times. Not once did I use the mute feature. I think it's neat to have one, but I don't really see a need for one. Clearly, that's just a personal preference.

I got around the mute issue by using a silent switching jack. I don't miss not having one now.

do you know if the walkabout head only has the gigbag included in the package?

on the mute, i am planning on using my klotz cable if i buy the walkabout.. it has a spring that mutes when unplugged

As long as you have a stomp tuner, you don't need a mute button for silent tuning.

I think the walkabout comes with the bag if you only buy the head, and doesn't come with the bag if you buy it with the headcase or combo. Not many people are currently using the bag and have opted for something else.

I have a yearning to hear a WA thru an SVT cab.......

As was said recently by Chef and others, it sounds fantastic through an NV610. That's what I play through at every practice.

Yes-you get the bag only if you buy the rackmount version of the head. However, IME the bag fits a bit too snug to be practical for the head itself. I use it for cables.

Regarding muting cables; I have had one in the past that had a slight degrdation of the audio signal as the contacts were not always such a perfect fit nor with enough spring pressure. When I had a WA, I would just pull the cable from the amp between sets or just rolled down the volume on the bass if it was in a stand.

funny, i had an opposite experience;
the SVT cab did nothing for me-too muddy
however, the 8 10's sure woke that little amp up; unleashed it's hidden potential

Yeah, a mute would be nice.
It's very easy to roll the input gain shut.

Made the mod recently. Changing to the NF-R8 fan made a tremendous difference. It is available for $14 from amazon.

I apparently glazed over the Noctua fans quickly as the specifications listed for them weren't as straightforward as the other fans I listed.

Though, looking at the specs of the NF-R8 on the Noctua site, the air flow is listed as 53 m3/h. According to Invalid Link Removed, that is 31.1958CFM at 17dBa.

The SilenX EFX-08-15T is listed as 32CFM at 15dBa.

You say you've used both and the Noctua is slightly better. Now my question to you is, which of the two companies lied about their specs? Is the Noctua quieter than they say or is the SilenX louder than they claim?

I suppose it's a moot point either way if the Noctua is, in fact, noticeably better. The fan is available for around $19 shipped nearly everywhere.

Mesa must have a very good reason for not putting a mute button there. They never skimp on anything with their products, ime. It isn't a deal breaker for me. I know quite a few guys that use the Walkabout Combo. When I was talking to Walter Woods before purchasing my Ultra from him about 10 years ago, I mentioned the Walkabout, and he suggested that I might be happy with the Walkabout instead if his amp. I do love my WW Ultra, but I think my next amp will be the Walkabout Combo..they always sound good.

If you're looking for something really different, you're on the right track.

Mine's a nice Neutrik - The signal gets through unhindered....

I have never really used the mute on an amp b/c I always have a tuner pedal live. I guess I might use it at home but that is about it.

If you're looking for something really different, you're on the right track.

Yeah, different for sure, but in a good way. The WW is a strong amp, very warm, plenty of headroom (1200w @ 4ohms). The Walkabout Combo has great build quality, a tone I really like, and a nice attractive and low profile on stage. The combo package seems like it has got plenty of juice for most of my gigs now.
