My Walkabout head is still my favorite amp. I find myself wanting to find a second one again in combo form despite having too many amps already!

A 2nd WA is always a good thing...... 'cause ya just never know...........

I find myself going in cycles. I always have 1 WA head. I eventually pick up a 2nd 1 used, but that ends up being sold or traded in a GAS fit. Since used ones are essentially a steady commodity trading at 500-550, flipping a used one for repurchase later isn't too painfull.

I was also doing some searching for fan replacements. Several of the older links to potential options are dead links or the item is discontinued.

Just throwing a few options that I think would do well in replacement of the stock fan. I'll be purchasing one of these very soon.

The SilenX and the Noctua are the best fans you can get. I have used both, I like the Noctua slightly better. Despite their similar ratings... the Noctua is noticibly quieter yet visibly uglier

The SilenX and the Noctua are the best fans you can get. I have used both, I like the Noctua slightly better. Despite their similar ratings... the Noctua is noticibly quieter yet visibly uglier

I apparently glazed over the Noctua fans quickly as the specifications listed for them weren't as straightforward as the other fans I listed.

Though, looking at the specs of the NF-R8 on the Noctua site, the air flow is listed as 53 m3/h. According to Invalid Link Removed, that is 31.1958CFM at 17dBa.

The SilenX EFX-08-15T is listed as 32CFM at 15dBa.

You say you've used both and the Noctua is slightly better. Now my question to you is, which of the two companies lied about their specs? Is the Noctua quieter than they say or is the SilenX louder than they claim?

I suppose it's a moot point either way if the Noctua is, in fact, noticeably better. The fan is available for around $19 shipped nearly everywhere.

i am in the market for a lighter head, the walkabout is being considered as a good option.

It is not perfect (no speakon, no standby, master interacts with di) but the sound is so meaty it almost makes me forget those issues.. Being a mesa titan owner, the walkabout is the perfect light head to pair with it.

Anyway, i have a question maybe some of you walkabout owners can answer me. I have been told the walkabout needs a very stable voltage to work properly. Is this information accurate?

I have a furman voltage regulator but it is heavy and big, no point on having a light head if i need to bring the regulator for it to work like it should.

So gald you don't have an SVT included in the test or I'd have no reason to visit the amp section here

A standby switch is not necessary for its design. The output section is powered by (solid-state) MOSFETs. Do you need a 'mute' function? I haven't heard anything about the Walkabout being finicky about voltage levels. I haven't experienced any problems with mine.
