Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

I really need to demo a WD-800!!
Yeah… I need to re-audition one too. :)
Maybe my ears were up my a55 that time? Sinus/allergy issues were really bad last year… confuses the senses.
Problem is that my LMS sells them as fast as they get them. :sour:
So I've been playing stuff through a D-800+. You know… that amp ain't bad by loooooong shot.
I'm playing everything through the Subway 2x12, now that they can usually keep one in stock. It is nice. Really, really NICE! Like 'Eagle Scout' nice. :)
Mmm… Eagle Scout. Mmm…

Walkabout Megathread part 10?
Man, that's a lot of posts.
Maybe this amp is actually pretty good or something?

which might explain why I bought another one;
Used blackface scout 12.
Not the lightest combo in the world, but I missed having a really good one handed grab (more or less) combo for rehearsals and smaller things vs head and cab.
So. I'm back in...

It is a bit of an awkward carry and a tad heavy by current standards, but I look at it this way...I only carry it about 5 to 10 minutes total for most any gig, but love the sound for the hours I play it at the gig.

I’m combo-only now. I’ve a silver faced Walkabout Scout 12” + 12” extension cab, and a pair of Ampeg B100R Rocket Bass combos that can operate as master + slave (via the line-out mod.)

WD800 has the potential to shred the 112 in a combo...
If you're careful, and/or run and extension cab mostly...then maybe that's better.

But yes, that could work. I think.
I think it fits in there. I haven't checked. I do have one.

A pair of drivers to work with it would make for one heavy combo though :smug:

Yes, this is the main reason for not offering a 800 watt combo w/ 400 watts into 8 ohms.

When a manufacturer provides a 5 year warranty on a combo, it's prudent to consider the ramifications of the design choices on warranty claims.

The choices are to use high enough power drivers, two or more drivers or limit the power. Limiting power goes against the performance goals, high powered drivers and multiple drivers typically drive the size, weight and price to marginally acceptable levels (for the majority of players)

How many of you would even be willing to consider an $1800 combo for example?

They can have my 2nd generation silverface WalkAbout/Scout 15 when they buy it from my estate and gleefully drag all 78 lbs of it away. Not before.

Oh the price definitely is prohibitive. I understand not wanting customers to destroy their amp. But, some can control a volume knob. Sadly, I've been so busy with other things, I have not bought a wd800 yet. It looks to be the most useful, feature rich amp out there. That amp teamed up with the new eminence 15" coaxial looks to be a good pairing. I'm just talking out loud. There will be no gigs to try anything out for awhile.

I can't remember what it was called, but there was a 2×12 combo cab designed for (I think) the Carbine amps. I almost bought one secondhand once.

Are you guys thinking about something like that again?

Nope, it had a very limited appeal due to size, weight and cost.

I am far from an expert on this subject, but I susepct a WD-800/SW112 or better yet SW115 (8 Ohm versions of course) combo would be safe in hands of most folks who could afford to buy one. On the other hand, my D-800 or WD-800 and either one of those SW cabs is as easy for me to carry as my old WA 112 and can do a lot more.
