Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

I assume yes, since they still sell the head. Just call the contact # on the web site and ask.
New cab day. Found another powerhouse 112 8 ohm to match my current one.
Ok, so everybody has been so excited about class d. But, WHEN IS THE HIGH POWER WALKABOUT COMING OUT?
I think that, being a lower power model (pushing the V2) makes it sound so great.
The M-Pulse 600 doesn't sound as good as the WA.
Dime the master volume and gain it to taste. You'll be hard pressed to find a situation where this head won't get it done.

I asked that at NAMM in 2005.... 12 years ago .. And when i spoke with the man himself Randall smith at a gig he was doing a couple of years ago.. And here we are in 2017..
Ive used my WA into large 4 ohm boxes and it sounds pretty good at moderate volumes

I don't see why they just couldn't use the same pre matched to their 900 watt amp, just have it seven by a tube like the wa.

And i have had 3 mPulse 600s.. Each time trying to convince myself it IS a larger walkabout.. It's not. I wanted it so bad that it took me 3 times for it to sink in..
IME the BB750's clean channel, or the Titan run clean can pretty much cop the Walkabout tone, and the mP600 almost gets there. However, "Walkabout tone" means different things to different users, so, as Chef likes to say, "there's that"
Is it only distorting above a certain volume level? The 4 ohm stock combo cab can't handle anywhere near the full 300 watts.
Yes at band rehearsal volumes it definitely does it. But it has only just started . It souned great before.
You have just discovered the WA's limitation. The stock 4 ohm 112 is not enough to handle the amps 300 watts. A 4 ohm 2x12 is better suited to the job. Or, any larger spkr cab you like. I've always thought it would be smarter to get the 8 ohm combo, but then they can't market it as a 300 watt combo.
I had the 8 ohm combo and even at 8 ohms I could make the cab over-excurse (fart ) if I dimed the vol or bass eqs. I'd expect no more than about 150w TOPS into that 12" speaker.
But. ..yeah run that Walkabout into a NV412 or my 2 Fender Bassman Pro Neo 115s and it'll keep up with darn near anything.

Hello guys, I had a great night with my beloved Walkabout and two 15's at the year end party..
Usually I go with Greenboy Basic 15 with 4 ohm Faital 15PR400, but for this gig I for the first time added another 15 cab with 8 ohm Eminence Kappalite 3015. This made together 2.67 ohm load and for three sets it was ok. On the fourth set the Walkabout suddenly stopped working. I thought it was a thermal shutdown, because the amp was really hot and I expected it to go back after cooling down. Unfortunately, it didn't. The fan just jerks once and does not rotate, tubes are lighted, but there is no sound coming out. I have brought it to local repairman to check it out today. I still don't know the outcome. Have you experienced something similar? Is it possible that a protection circuit failed and the power transistors are fried? Thank you.

You might want to contact customer service so that you can take your amp to an authorized service center where you have a better chance of getting your amp repaired properly. Factory authorized service centers have access to additional resources as well as have the experience without having to guess.
Note that in general, this applies to most brands. That doesn't mean that there aren't good independent guys, just that the odds are better when they are factory supported (both for parts as well as documentation, updates, troubleshooting help, etc)

Plug into the fx loop. .. see if yr power amp or pre amp is working. That's always my 1st point of call. Goodluck
Thank you guys, it is already out of my hands so I can't check the fx loop. This repairman is a legend, but if needed, we will contact the Czech authorized service, indeed.
