Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 9!

-you can order a cover from mesa's website-if you contact mesa
-the new top cover may be a covered upgrade as part of warranty. maybe. i think I paid $50 for mine, but, I can't remember

nice price, for one that new!
5 year transferable warranty.

Does anyone think the Carvin SV2 head case will house a mesa walkabout? Mesa's website states the head is 12'' deep, but the Carvin rack is only 10.5'' deep. I ask because I've heard people were able to fit their SVT pro 7's in the case which is 11.5''. Does that .5'' make it impossible to fit the head?

Update on my blown scout. The shop called me today and the diagnosis is a blown speaker AND horn. $300 bill with labor. Lesson learned: Don't play it with the gain at 7 and volume at 6 while wailing feedback with my big muff and gated flange. I know, I'm a moron...

The good news is that I picked up a new cabinet today for $400. It's a mesa pf410. Dumb question.. Should/can I run my walkabout to the pf410 and the scout at the same time, or this also bad judgement on my part? Pitty ill be out of town for the weekend and Monday, I'd love to play trough the new cabinet immediately.

I wouldn't do it. Assuming the 410 is a 4 ohm cab, both it and the 12 will be getting the same amount of power. Which not only poses the risk of blowing the speaker again, it may sound rather wonky. Crank the head through that 410 alone and you should be pretty darn loud.

Rehearsed this afternoon/evening for a wedding reception gig near Austin next weekend, with a lot of new material requested by the bride (daughter of our lead player). Needless to say, my Walkabout-2xGenz-Benz 10t rig is making the trip, and it sounded awesome. Drums, keys, two vocalists, lead and rhythm guitars. Damn. Wisht I could do this all the time.:D

i thought i would share some of the details about my current rig and band situation:

i have a WA stand alone head and i run it through two Euphonic Audio CXL 1 12 cabs. (8 ohm cabs rated @350 watts. sensitivity @103)
so technically i am running the amp @300 watts at 4 ohms.

my amp volume is the pre at about noon and the master about 10 o clock; very low volume. EQ more or less neutral with a little cut in the low end.
i have more than enough juice at our rehearsal (rock trio)+vocals. and my basses are never up all the way-always have wiggle room each direction.
i have tons of clear headroom with this rig. i do not understand the people who say this amp cannot deliver enough headroom. furthermore, i cannot imagine playing louder than i do and be comfortable.

more importantly though-the rig sounds glorious and everyone can hear/feel it. the bass just sounds the way i have always dreamed it would.
the general tone of my rig is actually on the bright side and not at all muddy. quite clear actually for an amp that is known for it's wonderful girth and warmth(it has that too)

my set up is proof that a 2 12 WA rig is more than adequate volume wise. IMO

i suspect that the efficiency of my cabs plays a huge part in the equation as well.

I have been thinking something similar to your statement. My 210 can be a bit shy in some situations, and 2x210 can be too much (even in situations approaching "doom metal" territory). I feel like two 12s might provide more appropriate range and versatility. Ideally, I would have a 4ohm 212, and an 8ohm 112 from the same series (for a 312 if things ever get ridiculous).
If only Bergantino had released 12s in the HS series...

At those settings, that's about all the power it's got.
Turning it up from there only adds harmonic content, and then distortion.

Your needs are not every one else's needs.
It's not acurate to presume that what's more than enough for you, is even nearly enough for everyone else.

I gigged the Walkabout as my main amp, for years.
It was nearly always short of enough for me, in terms of clean power; starting with 2 12's, switching one to a 15, moving to 3 or four 12's...

I finally decided a more powerful head, and less speakers worked way better for me, in most cases.

yes i realize that my needs aren't the same as others
i am just stating that even i am surprised at how much power it delivers. just my 2 cents and real life experience.
i am just grateful that it is enough for me because this is the best bass amp i have played through.

even if the amp was a little short on power, i would just DI it thru the mains at rehearsal to make up the difference.
one thing i have learned here on TB is that watts don't always tell the full story. i didn't know that until recently. wish i knew that 20 years ago...
my eyes were really opened when i played a WA thru a PH 4 12 and was blown away by the headroom and power and quality of tone.
