Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 9!

Hey all, I'm trying to get back into a Walkabout and I have a question on cabs...
I have a guy local to me that has a M6 carbine combo (2x12) cabinet he is trying to offload. Have any of you heard the Walkabout paired with this speaker/control net setup? My goal is to expand this a little more and get as much speaker surface as possible. So ideally, this would be paired with another 2x12 or a 4x10 later on down the road.
I miss that Walkabout tone SOOOO much.....

I don't have any recent pictures. Big and full. It sounds even better through my 4x12 Powerhouse.....actually it crushes.
I purchased a walkabout brown faced and hope it will run my 2 8 ohm 410 cabs nicely

So my guitar player upgraded his fender little 30 watt combo to a Marshall half stack and some off brand 50 watt tube head yesterday. Needless to say, there was a volume war going on at practice last night and to be honest, I really didn't mind. I pushed the little 12" scout to 6o'clock on the master and she was sounding really nice. I've never pushed her that hard.. I played at that volume for about an hour and we were finishing a song off with some feed back stuff and I had my bass big muff squealing while playing with the rate nob on the gated function of my flange when all the sudden, dead..
The head is fine, thank god, but the cabinet is not responding. I could smell something but couldn't pin-point the location after I removed the speaker. I'm assuming it's the speaker. Who knows. Want to take it in to the local repair shop but am snowed in..
Sad day. Looking at cabinets so this doesn't happen again.

I suppose I'll need to upgrade to a bigger cabinet. Dang it! Where does one go about getting the nifty head case Chef has?
I can't seem to find it on their website, it seems you might have to call Mesa direct to order one, which I heard costs up to $250+.
Anyone have any opinions about their rackmount kit for $50? I have a 2U rack lying around and I'm thinking of sticking my walkabout in there after I'm done experimenting with different preamp tubes.

I have the head case as well, I ordered it from Bass Central. Any Mesa dealer can get it for you.
I like the little single 12 setup, but it has its limits for sure. The great thing is that my Walkabout sounds great through the Mesa 12 and 15 scout cabs, my 2 GK NEO 112 II's and my Epifani PS410. There is a huge volume difference between the single Mesa 12 and a pair of 12's like my GK's. I can get really loud through that big Epi box with the Mesa and easily keep up with 2 guitarist playing through 100 watt Marshall half stacks.

I went to the mesa shop and dropped the scout off. We did some verbal trouble shooting without the tech there and I'm thinking it wasn't the speaker, although it could be that as well... There was a smell that emanated from the cabinet but I didn't check to see if the speaker felt gritty when I flexed it. The thing is straight up dead. No noise comes from it whatsoever. I would've thought I'd get a little bit of response from the horn, nothing. Probably electrical, who knows. I'm never going to get the thing fixed in time for our next gig. I have the 4 ohm cab by the way.

A new Eminence DeltaLite II 12" speaker is way less than $300. I agree that an 8 ohm 12" makes more sense in the combo just given the limited power handling of the speaker. You can also keep an eye out on Talkbass or Ebay for used Scout extension cabs- I see them on here on a fairly regular basis when folks decide it isn't loud enough to gig with...
I wish I were more savvy with electronics. We tried to drive the speaker after I took it out of the cabinet to make sure if it was indeed just the speaker and were unsuccessful. I'm not even sure if my attempt was done correctly. What I do know is that something smelled pretty bad before the cabinet shut down. By the time I got the grill off and the speaker out I couldn't pinpoint where the smell had come from; the speaker or circuit board. The guy at the Mesa shop said a speaker doesn't smell if it's blown, but he wasn't the tech and what do I know. His tech wasn't in and he showed me the mesa price sheet which listed the replacement 12" speaker at around $200. The fee for the tech to diagnose was $50 and I'm sure they'll throw labor in. They're going to call me to let me know what the diagnosis is, and if it is just the speaker, I'll do it myself. I see the one Sunbeast mentions for around $150.

Yes, double the cabs will be a big diff.
And, yes, the PH cabs are tuned very differently from the Scout/Radiator cabs, which feel very fat for their size.
I ran two Scout cabs for a long time, and, when I felt like I needed more, changed the lower one to the 15" version.

I've had my eye on one of these for a few years now and yesterday finally managed to scoop up a 1x12 combo off of craigslist for $725. It's missing the manual and cover, but is in fantastic shape other than a few minor scuffs. It's one of the newer models with the black face, but doesn't have the extra airflow vents on the back panel.
The first bass I tried with it was my Spector fretless, and it absolutely blew me away. If I had more sick time saved up at work I would probably still be at home playing.
